ScottishPower are recruiting a Senior Network Engineer to play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of Scottish Power's strategic telecoms network.
You'll be responsible for overseeing all aspects of network operations, defining best practice and ensuring compliance. Be an advocate for improving network performance, maximising uptime of services, and optimise network infrastructure to deliver excellent communication services.
The prompt and effective resolution of Major Incidents and proactive mitigation through investigation of the operational telecoms network.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the company's communication networks. Key responsibilities include field management, network testing, and ensuring the health of the telecom estate, while required skills include experience with IP networking, various telecom protocols, and Microsoft Office suite.
Within this position, you can expect to be responsible for:
Promoting an exemplary safety culture and ensures that all safety legislation is implemented and delivered through all activities.
Attending site visits and find solutions to issues encountered.
Analysing and coordinating programmes and balanced workbooks to enable effective delivery within each licence area whilst driving optimised value from the regulatory contract.
Developing and maintaining robust stakeholder and customer relationships on behalf of ScottishPower to facilitate delivery of customer and stakeholder strategic objectives.
Where milestone completion is at risk of not achieving the commitment dates, escalating this with the appropriate partner management chain to prevent missing the Milestone or reduces the impact of missing the milestone.
Driving continual performance improvement through analysis of outputs and feedback from internal and external sources.
Acting as a point of contact for the customer during in-life projects and interface with Delivery teams to aid and guide.
Bringing a "can do" attitude to problem solving, presenting solutions to problems identified.
What you'll bring
We are looking for an individual with knowledge of an operations environment using service management frameworks such as ITIL, with experience of managing network incidents and problems.
They will have expertise in network deployment, monitoring, management and troubleshooting, with knowledge of Network Management Systems such as Cisco Prime, Nokia NFM-P, Network monitoring and configuration tools and software, and the ability to optimise configurations.
Along with experience of working in a business-critical environment, with strong interpersonal skills and comfortable partnering across the business and with vendors and suppliers.
Minimum Requirements
Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Telecommunications Engineering or equivalent experience.
Experience in project management within telecom environments.
Operational experience with telecom networks including: Fibre, copper, microwave radio, cellular (public/private), LAN/WAN, firewall configuration
Familiarity with telecom protocols and technologies such as MPLS?IP, MPLS?TP, PDH, SDH, IP telephony, Network synchronisation: SyncE, ToD, NTP, Phase
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Visio and Project.
Understanding of telecom power systems such as: -48V DC systems, batteries, UPS
Strong presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proactive, solution?focused, able to work under pressure.
Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt.
