Job Description

Open Arms Support Services Ltd are looking for a qualified occupational therapist to join their friendly team . We are based close to Norwich City Centre and offer great rates of pay , free onsite parking and flexible contracts (full time, part time and term time only are available).

The ideal candidate will be qualified to degree level, with a minimum of two years' experience and able to demonstrate a specialist level of clinical expertise and knowledge in the clinical specialism of paediatric occupational therapy, with a particular knowledge of Sensory Processing Difficulties and child and adolescent mental health.

The successful applicants will be required to carry out in depth assessments and reports within a given deadline, looking at how a child functions within their educational and home environments, providing recommendations and strategies to support the child, family, and education.



To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of children with sensory processing dysfunction, motor difficulties, poor emotional well-being, or any other disorder/ condition within your clinical area of knowledge.

To demonstrate excellent negotiation skills across a range of issues and with a range wide of other professional and carers/parents.

To negotiate with others around case management in complex cases in consultation with other health and education professionals.

To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.

To complete in depth holistic assessments and reports within the deadline provided.

To communicate with other professionals/carers during the assessment process and in undertaking intervention programmes to ensure best clinical practice and intervention delivery

To monitor the impact of sensory processing difficulties on the occupational performance and emotional well-being of the client, adapting and facilitating according to perceived client needs.

To promote children and young people's rights in all aspects of the role and to help develop a shared understanding of what this means in practice.

To contribute towards the provision of advice, training and information to education staff and other health professionals within an education environment.

To liaise with parents/carers, teaching staff and external agencies.

To advise on issues of service delivery including unmet need, shortfall, service pressures etc.

To assume delegated tasks as requested by Business Manager, including participation in working groups, policy development groups.

To independently develop individual occupational therapy intervention plans within the area of specialism.

To be well informed of, adhere to and implement OASS policies and guidelines.

To provide specialist training to schools and other professionals on a range of topics particularly sensory processing dysfunction, motor difficulties, poor emotional well-being, or any other disorder/ condition within your clinical area of knowledge.

To maintain up to date and accurate case notes in line with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT) professional standards and OASS policies.

To share information with others, observing data protection and GDPR guidelines.

To update COT Continuing Professional Development logs accurately and regularly.

To participate in the supervision, review, and appraisal process in line with OASS policies.

To undertake any other duties as designated by the Clinical Director or Business Manager.

To communicate complex and sensitive information related to the client's complex condition to clients, parents, carers, families, and any other relevant professionals.

To demonstrate empathy with clients, parents/carers and families and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.

To deal with initial complaints sensitively and promptly avoiding escalation where possible.

To employ excellent communication skills.

To attend relevant training and development to maintain and develop skills and knowledge required of a specialist therapist and maintain up to date HPC and COT registration.

Key Criteria



Essential



1. Hold a degree in occupational therapy.

2. HCPC registered.

3. Minimum 2 years' experience working as an occupational therapist, with a specialist level of clinical expertise and knowledge in the clinical specialism of paediatric occupational therapy.

4. Ability to self-manage, prioritise and delegate appropriately to manage own workload yet able to recognise the need for and seek support when necessary

5. Knowledgeable in Occupational Therapy models and treatment approaches and able to critically evaluate implementation within clinical area in line with organisational policies and evidence-based practice principles.

6. Full driving license and access to a vehicle with business insurance, as travel is required daily.

7. Experience of working in a team gaining an awareness of team dynamics and developed good interpersonal skills and the maturity / self-confidence to form effective working relationships.

8. Evidence of contributing to the professional development of self.

9. Competent IT skills

Desirable



1. Evidence of contributing to the professional development and clinical education of students and junior staff.

2. Qualified to Module 2 in Sensory Integration and have some experience of working within this area.

3. ADOS-2 Qualified or willing to undertake training in this area

4. Competent IT skills.
