Job Description

The Royal London Hospital is looking for an experienced Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our newly established TTA Optimisation Team. This role is vital for enhancing the quality and speed of discharge medication processes, ensuring our patients receive the best possible care.
Main duties of the job

  • TTA Coordination: Oversee the coordination and processing of TTA prescriptions, ensuring compliance with local and national guidelines.
  • Supervision: Provide guidance and supervision to pharmacy assistants and trainees, fostering their development and ensuring a high standard of service.
  • Quality Improvement: Identify inefficiencies and contribute to the continuous improvement of TTA services by implementing local solutions and supporting new initiatives.
  • Training and Development: Train and develop junior staff, maintaining high performance and accountability within the team.
  • Audit Participation: Support departmental audits and quality assurance processes to maintain compliance with regulatory standards.

  • oSignificant experience working as a registered pharmacy technician in a hospital.
  • oProven experience supporting or delivering discharge medication services, including TTAs or dosette boxes.
  • oSupervisory experience, including allocation of daily tasks and performance feedback.
  • oProficiency in dispensing, accuracy checking (if accredited), and stock control processes.
  • oExperience with medicines reconciliation, POD assessment, and ward-based services relevant to discharge.
  • oExperience communicating with patients, families, and clinical staff under time pressure.
Desirable
  • oExperience leading or participating in quality improvement projects related to discharge or medicines optimisation.
  • oExperience training and developing pharmacy assistants, PTPTs, or rotational staff.
  • oFamiliarity with supporting audits or KPI monitoring (e.g. turnaround times, CD compliance).
  • oExperience with robot-supported dispensing systems.
Knowledge

  • oGood understanding of the medicines management process, particularly in relation to discharge.
  • oFamiliarity with CD regulations, GPhC standards, and safe and secure handling of medicines.
