The overall performance and governance oversight is provided by a triumvirate comprising a Divisional Medical Director, Director of Operations and a Director of Nursing.

The job involves taking blood from patients on the wards, in outpatient clinics and in patient homes. The department is currently open from 7.30 am to 5.00 pm, with staff working various shift patterns

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a part-time senior phlebotomist for 27 hours per week contract. The working pattern will be three full day shifts and one 4.5 hours shift in the afternoon.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated person with good communication skills to work in a stimulating and challenging environment and to contribute to health care.

We are a busy patient-focused department staffed by a friendly and helpful team working at both Epsom and St Helier Hospitals and attending clinic sessions in the community and GP surgeries as well as visiting patients' homes.

We are looking for a responsible, adaptable person to join us in taking blood samples from patients requiring laboratory blood tests. Experience in adult, paediatric phlebotomy, and domiciliary phlebotomy are essential.

You will be required to take part in the present Saturday and Bank Holiday rota. However extended days or differing shifts may be required depending on the future needs of the service, and flexibility with regard to hours and place of work is essential.

This is a cross-site role and the post holder will be required to work at any of the Trust sites however, the post-holder will be mainly based at Epsom.

A full driving license and the use of a car is essential as there is a need to travel between clinics etc.

Working for our organisation

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 490,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey. In addition, we provide more specialist services, in particular renal and neonatal intensive care, to a wider area, covering parts of Sussex and Hampshire.

We serve an area that is rich in diversity, with a mix of urban and rural areas, and differing levels of quality of life. We cover some of the most prosperous postcodes in the country, as well as some poorer areas. Together with our colleagues at NHS Surrey and NHS Sutton and Merton, we work to make sure that we deliver the best possible care to the communities we serve.

The Trust employs approximately 5,000 staff across its hospitals and is supported by over 500 volunteers
