The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled
Senior Physiotherapist
to join our dynamic Therapy Services team. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality physiotherapy care to a diverse caseload across a range of acute and, in some rotations, community settings.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will assess, diagnose, and develop individualised treatment programmes for patients with complex needs. Your role will combine direct patient care with leadership responsibilities, including supervising Band 5 physiotherapists, assistants, and students, and contributing to service development projects.
This post offers the opportunity to work autonomously within your clinical area while having access to senior physiotherapists for guidance and support. You will also take part in the emergency duty rota, including respiratory on-call and weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical
Manage your own caseload, including patients with complex or multi-pathology presentations.
Undertake comprehensive assessments using advanced clinical reasoning and manual assessment techniques.
Formulate, implement, and evaluate evidence-based treatment programmes, including manual therapy, facilitation of movement, patient education, and use of adjuncts.
Communicate effectively with patients and carers, adapting your approach to overcome barriers such as hearing loss, altered perception, or language difficulties.
Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive treatment records in line with professional standards.
Represent the physiotherapy service in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to care planning and discharge decisions.
Ensure safe and competent use of equipment, supporting junior staff to achieve competency before use.
Professional
Maintain professional competence through ongoing CPD and keep a portfolio reflecting personal development.
Participate in service evaluation, audit, and evidence-based projects to improve practice.
Supervise, teach, and assess physiotherapy students in partnership with higher education institutions.
Take responsibility for the appraisal and professional development of Band 5 staff with support from Band 7 colleagues.
Deputise for the Band 7 Physiotherapist when required, overseeing daily operational management and workload allocation.
General
Uphold NUH values and behavioural standards, fostering a culture of compassion, teamwork, and professionalism.
Comply with infection control, safeguarding, information governance, and health and safety policies.
Promote patient safety, wellbeing, and dignity at all times.
Engage actively in NUH health and wellbeing initiatives for staff.
