Overview


We are seeking a skilled and experienced town planning professional to join our dynamic team in our Planning and Architecture Consultancy. The ideal candidate will assist the Directors and senior staff in the preparation of material in support of the company's portfolio of planning application, and appeal and legal/court casework. The Senior Planner will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that projects are completed efficiently and effectively.

Key areas of responsibility

In particular, but not exclusively:

Assessment of potential new client files prepared by others Research of additional site details including planning history and planning policies Making site visits Writing fee quotations Determining strategy for planning appraisals Managing applications from appointment to determination Preparing details for fee invoices Preparing statements and supporting documentation for planning applications, certificates of lawfulness and appeals Managing the preparation of supporting documentation for applications and appeals by other members of the Applications Team and outside consultants Monitoring of the process and progress of planning applications and conducting negotiations with LPAs and consultees Keeping clients informed of progress throughout Supervision of technical staff on other projects Preparation of appeal handover files Drafting appeal statements Managing the submission of appeals and monitoring progress Representing clients at planning appeals

General office duties

Representing the practice at marketing events such as trade shows Assisting in maintaining records including job filing and electronic records Assisting in answering telephone calls and taking messages Assist the general running and administration of the company by carrying out administrative and support tasks as requested by the directors Support trainee planners undertaking the APC

Qualifications:

Essential

Degree in planning Post graduate qualification from an RTPI accredited course Chartered Membership of the RTPI

Experience/Expertise:

Essential

Minimum of 3 years post qualification experience of the planning system Ability to write clear technical/legal English Ability to carry out thorough research and record findings logically
Desirable:

Good verbal presentation skills Experience of presenting evidence at appeals

Required Knowledge:

Essential:

Ability to use the internet as a research tool Proficient in MS Office Knowledge of the planning system
Desirable

Legal knowledge Additional specialist expertise in one or all of the following: Certificates of lawfulness*
Enforcement*
Land use planning, particularly gypsy and traveler cases*

Attributes:

Good telephone manner Good interpersonal and communication skills An effective team player Meticulous approach to dealing with data Willingness to learn new skills

Additional details:

The post is full-time and based at the offices at Upton Magna, however we would consider hybrid working for the right candidate. There may be some out of hours working with time off in lieu including attendance at inquiries/hearings with overnight accommodation.

Working hours are 9.00 to 5.30 with one hour for lunch
