We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Planner to manage and optimize production scheduling and material planning for a low-volume, high-complexity valve manufacturing environment. This role is critical to coordinating cross-functional operations across our assembly, test, machine shop, and repair departments. The ideal candidate will possess strong planning expertise, a deep understanding of discrete manufacturing, and the ability to navigate the challenges of made-to-order and engineered-to-order product flows.
You will be working a compressed week Monday to Thursday.
Duties
Create and manage detailed production plans and work order schedules for complex valve assemblies and service/repair jobs.
Coordinate material and component requirements in alignment with engineering drawings, BOMs, and customer specifications.
Interface closely with the assembly, machine shop, purchasing and repair teams to understand capacity constraints and adjust schedules proactively.
Ensure planning data in the ERP/MRP system is accurate and up to date, including routings, BOMs and lead times.
Monitor work order progress, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to maintain delivery commitments.
Collaborate with procurement and stores teams to avoid material shortages and manage long lead-time items.
Support sales and customer service teams with realistic lead times and delivery dates for customer orders and repair work.
Drive planning improvements and support initiatives such as kitting and WIP tracking.
Identify, define, and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) for the planning function, focusing on schedule adherence, material availability, lead time performance, capacity utilization, and subcontractor reliability; use these metrics to drive continuous improvement and support data-driven decision-making across operations.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across planning, scheduling, and production coordination.
Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to enhance planning processes.
Requirements
Up to 5 years of planning experience in a low-volume, complex manufacturing environment (preferably engineered-to-order or made-to-order)
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field
Deep understanding of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, mechanical assembly, pressure testing, and valve repair
Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Epicor, or similar)
Strong Excel and data analysis skills
Experience managing mixed-mode production environments (new builds, repairs, prototypes)
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with a collaborative mindset
Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
