From day one, you'll lead complex infrastructure programmes using cutting-edge tools and forward-thinking methodologies to shape the future of energy. Whether it's offshore wind connections, substation builds, or underground cabling schemes--this is planning that makes a real impact.
This role is based at our Woolavington site near Bridgwater, Somerset, supporting a major substation construction project through to 2028, with a strong pipeline of additional works beyond. It is a hybrid position, requiring three days per week on-site once construction is fully underway.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Planning Engineer, you will:
Advanced Planning & Scheduling:
Develop and maintain fully resourced, logically linked programmes across all project phases.
Strategic Tender Planning:
Lead the development and presentation of compelling tender programmes and planning strategies that influence bid success.
Delivery Oversight:
Manage contract programmes to ensure alignment with commercial and operational goals.
Critical Path & Change Management:
Identify risks, assess impacts, and implement robust mitigation strategies.
Reporting & Insights:
Deliver detailed progress reports, KPIs, and strategic planning insights to project leadership.
Mentorship & Leadership:
Guide and mentor junior planners, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams, and Clients to ensure alignment and successful delivery.
Continuous Improvement:
Champion enhancements to planning processes, tools, and methodologies.
Who we're looking for
We're seeking senior planning professionals who bring clarity, structure, and strategic foresight. You'll need:
A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Extensive experience in planning roles on major infrastructure or energy projects.
Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 or Asta Powerproject, plus Excel and reporting tools.
Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, earned value analysis, QSRA, and TRA methodologies.
A strategic, analytical mindset with a keen eye for programme risk and opportunity.
Excellent communication skills to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
The ability to lead independently and collaboratively in a hybrid, fast-paced environment.
