Job Purpose


We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer who is passionate about code, automation, infrastructure, problem solving and building robust solutions to problems. You will believe in the culture of DevOps, working with and supporting the delivery of tools, process and best practices to engineers across the business, that allows us to ship software seamlessly into production, to observe how it operates and respond quickly to problems.


The platform is .Net, using RabbitMQ, WebAPI and WCF to connect services, and MySQL and MongoDB to manage our vast amounts of data. We deploy to both AWS and On Premise VMWare infrastructure, using infrastructure as code, we use Virtual Machines as well as Kubernetes to manage our containers, where we've adopted a microservice based architecture.


As we move more workloads to Kubernetes, there is scope to innovate and drive the business forward using GitOps and modern delivery methods.


You must be keen on keeping up-to-date with new technologies, techniques and processes, and identify where these could lead to improvements for your role.


Job Duties

Develop standard application stacks using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to address common use cases. Build on the prototype application stacks to deliver a production ready environment that can be scaled to meet future requirements. Work with Kubernetes, Docker and standard virtual machine infrastructure to allow automated deployment, upgrade and operation of application stacks that can be reused across multiple projects. Design and implement solutions that can be reused across multiple projects. Work with Security and Compliance to ensure application stacks are hardened against malicious attacks. Work with the Application Development teams and the Digital Technology business to deliver solutions that meet their emerging requirements. Work with the Engineering Managers and Architects to develop a set of Standard Operational Procedures that can be rolled out across the business and to third parties who need to work in our cloud-based environments. Work with the Engineering teams to diagnose and support issues with infrastructure, pipelines or applications. Upgrade and maintain our internal application tooling


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Background in Platform/OS engineering, both Linux and Windows experience is preferred. Experience using configuration management and infrastructure as code such as Ansible and Terraform Experience with containers using both Docker and Kubernetes Strong AWS Platform Engineering skills in particular; EC2, S3, IAM and VPC/network configuration Experience with VMWare is a bonus, especially vSphere, NSX, VCF Comfortable working in a fast paced, lean and deadline driven organisation. Able to work under pressure and to ask for support when required Ability to quickly undertake evaluation of competing products to determine which best meets the company's requirements Enjoys keeping up to date with advances in technologies and how they can be applied to projects Able to automate complex operational and technical processes using industry standard tools In-depth knowledge of cloud environments and typical technology stacks employed in them In-depth understanding of Cloud security issues and solutions An excellent communicator, both verbal and written Someone who is adaptable and able to pick up new techniques
