The Center for Global Development (CGD) is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit policy research organisation in Washington, DC and London, UK (CGD Europe) that focuses on the issues and institutions that are critical to inclusive development. CGD Europe seeks a Senior Policy Analyst for its Global Health Policy programme. The successful candidate will make a major contribution to our research, policy analysis and outreach relating to UK global health policies and reforming the global health architecture. The candidate must demonstrate a passion for improving policy making, as well as outstanding analytic skills, both in academic research and applied policy analysis. They will be self-motivated and organised, and excellent at communicating policy-relevant ideas. The post-holder will report to the programme's Deputy Director, Pete Baker, with the opportunity to work with other CGD Fellows across the programme. The role will be based in London, and applicants should have the right to work and live in the UK.
General Responsibilities:
Conduct research and policy analysis on key global health topics, including on UK global health policy and on the global health architecture
Author significant research and policy papers, alone or in collaboration with other senior colleagues
Perform duties requiring independent judgment and analysis related to data gathering and analysis, and writing reports and blog posts
Build and maintain relationships with key partners, including scholars, policymakers, and congressional staffers.
Support fundraising and donor engagement by contributing to grant reporting, proposals, and external presentations.
Represent CGD through participation in conferences, private meetings, and other public events
Performs other duties as assigned
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
Master's degree in public health, health economics, international development, or a related field;
Substantial work-related experience in UK policy making, or researching UK policy making,
Strong knowledge of current debates in reforming the global health architecture
Passion and enthusiasm for improving policy making
Competence and experience conducting policy-relevant research.
Superb interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Competent in working in complex multi-stakeholder environments, and ability to quickly grasp the political dynamics of new contexts
Proven ability to be a team player and to successfully manage multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Can-do attitude and intellectual curiosity
Good humor and collegiality are essential
