About Dynex

With over 60 years of experience,

Dynex Semiconductor Ltd

is a leading, independent manufacturer of high-power and high-reliability electronic components. Our products include

IGBTs, Bipolar Devices, Power Assemblies, and Electric Vehicle Systems

, supplied to customers across the globe.

With new projects underway at our

Research and Development Centre in Lincoln, t

his is your opportunity to be part of a talented engineering team developing the next generation of

power semiconductor modules

from concept through to production.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a

Senior Power Module Engineer

who is passionate about innovation and eager to take on technical challenges. You will design and develop

advanced power modules and systems

, particularly those incorporating

wide bandgap semiconductors (GaN, SiC)

, to achieve high switching performance and compliance with international standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

Design of power modules and power systems incorporating wide band gap semiconductors (e.g GaN, SiC) to ensure high levels of switching performance and compliance with application related standards. A particular view toward embedding of power devices within multi-layered PCB stacks to produce power modules with both high power density and low parasitics.

Analysis of magnetics, thermal characteristics, and EMI profiles of those power modules and systems to in order to optimise performance as much as possible and maximise switching performance.

Design and layout of high and low power circuits, designing to such considerations as; commutation loop inductance minimisation, gate loop inductance minimisation and balancing, current sharing between devices and the minimisation of electromagnetic interference.

Perform circuit simulations and PDN analysis to analyse and optimise the above.

Develop module designs with system level architecture in mind. Where appropriate input in to design of system level architecture such as capacitor integration, heat sink design/coolant flow integration, placement of gate drive boards and power busbars etc.

Produce schematic documentation and engineering drawings for power module and system designs and oversee early sample manufacture of prototype modules.

Use of 3D and 2D CAD modelling software (SolidEdge) and PCB design software (Altium) in order to produce module and system designs as outlined.

Similarly, the use of both finite element modelling software (ANSYS Mechanical and Q3D) and circuit simulation software (LTSpice, PLECS) to evaluate the designs produced and maximise their static and dynamic performance.

Design power modules and systems in accordance with "Design for Manufacture" principals form the outset.

The opportunity will exist for the right candidate to take on project leadership positions, overseeing and driving a project from start to finish.

Working as part of a collaborative team to create module designs starting from the ideas stage, meeting internal or external customer requirements and specifications.

About You

You'll ideally have experience working with

power modules

, preferably within a

research and development

environment. We offer strong support, professional development, and opportunities to lead exciting new projects -- making this role perfect for engineers who are ready to take on a fresh challenge and make a tangible impact.

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following skills and experience:

Education:

Degree level (or higher) qualification in Electronics or Electrical Engineering,

or

equivalent industrial experience in power electronics module design, PCB design and layout, or power systems development.

Technical Expertise:

Industrial experience in

power module

and

power system-level design and layout

, particularly power inverters. Experience in

automotive drivetrain inverters

would be advantageous.

Circuit Design Skills:

Strong background in electronics design, with a solid understanding of

circuit topology, parasitic magnetics, thermal performance, and EMI considerations

.

CAD and Modelling:

Experience using

2D and 3D CAD tools

to create engineering drawings and designs. A focus on electronics or power electronics products and systems is desirable.

PCB Design:

Proven ability in

PCB layout optimisation

, particularly for balancing and minimising commutation and control loop inductance. Experience using

Altium Designer

is advantageous.

Simulation Tools:

Strong proficiency in

circuit simulation and analysis

for design characterisation and device selection. Experience using

LTSpice, Q3D, and/or PLECS

is highly desirable.

Wide Bandgap Devices:

Familiarity with

GaN or SiC

semiconductors would be a distinct advantage.

You'll be

self-motivated

, with a commitment to producing high-quality design work as part of a

vibrant, multidisciplinary team

. You'll have the confidence to make engineering decisions that directly influence product performance and the communication skills to share your ideas effectively and enthusiastically across the business.
