Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review



Post qualifies for a 1000 golden handshake upon starting in the post plus a 5000 retention bonus after a successful 12 months with the service.



Working 36.5 hours per week

Birmingham's SEND and Inclusion services (part of the Children and Families Directorate) are growing as part of the council's long-term commitment to children and young people to improve their lives and support their families, and we are looking for outstanding people to join us and deliver meaningful impact in this priority area.


A number of posts have arisen for new members of the service to work with children and their families in Birmingham in their communities i.e. home, school etc. This is an exciting opportunity to stretch your problem-solving skills and cross-partnership working in a diverse and vibrant city.


The Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist role will help you apply your core Occupational Therapy skills while developing your managerial and specialist knowledge with working with children and their families with varying degrees of disabilities.


The post holder will be responsible for managing a team of Occupational Therapist professionals and will be required to monitor professional practice and service delivery within the team. They will support, guide and coach team members on their cases, applying knowledge and experience to problem solve and overcome challenges whilst working in collaboration with partner services. The post will oversee a relentless focus on child protection within the team and be alert to safeguarding duties and the management of thresholds and risks


The successful candidate will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with 4 or more years of qualified practice with experience of working with children and young people with complex health issues as well as palliative/terminal care. They will have experience of managing and developing a team, have excellent verbal and written communication skills and up to date knowledge of key legislation and policies.


The Children's Occupational Therapy Service is a small but dynamic team who have presented at RCOT Conference in the past and members have been in positions on the RCOT local regional and national boards.
