About the role
We have an exciting opportunity within our Youth Justice Service for an individual with significant youth justice experience to join our Court team as a senior practitioner.
The Youth Offending Service is a highly successful statutory partnership which is required to reduce the offending of children and young people; reduce the incidence of harm to potential victims; repair existing harm where possible and safeguard the welfare of the children and young people with whom we work.
What will you be doing?
You will be expected to offer a range of approaches to your work, which are responsive to the needs of the individuals.
The YJS client group can live chaotic lifestyles, and your persistence and determination will be important to your ability to engage and re-engage with those who need you most.
You will work in partnership with colleagues inside and outside the YJS including representing our service in Court and presenting professionally to magistrates and judges.

About you

Highly organised, you present with confidence in formal settings such as criminal courts and can coach others to do the same. You are skilled at summarising and recording information clearly and can translate these abilities into effective team leadership.
You approach challenges from children, young people, families, staff, and professionals positively, working towards constructive solutions. Your ability to engage and motivate children and young people, their parents and carers, and colleagues is key to applying your knowledge and experience effectively. You build collaborative relationships that promote partnership working and contribute to reducing offending behaviour.
You act swiftly and decisively when risks arise. With experience in conducting complex assessments and designing and delivering interventions, you can also audit the work of others, providing guidance for improvement. Above all, you are a credible and passionate practitioner, committed to supporting children and young people, their families, victims of crime, and professional partners in both community and formal environments such as Youth and Crown Courts.
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate. It is also a regulated activity and will be subject to a Barred List check
