Job Description

We're looking for a qualified Developer with previous experience building pricing models, preferably within an (re)insurance environment.
As a (re)insurance firm, building accurate, efficient pricing models which are used by our underwriters helps to inform the correct level of premium required for the risks we are adding to our portfolio. Insurance companies couldn't function without these tools. As a direct report to the Head of Pricing Systems & Data, the ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, a deep understanding of software development best practices, and experience working in a pricing or actuarial environment, ideally within the (re)insurance sector.
About The Job
While there is r arely a typical day, here's a snapshot of some of the key parts of the job:Lead the design, development, and deployment of pricing tools used by underwriters. Ensure tools are robust, efficient, and aligned with the latest market, regulatory, and actuarial requirements. Partner with underwriters, actuaries, and analysts to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions. Provide technical guidance to junior developers and analysts. Design and implement best-practice software engineering approaches for pricing systems (e.g., modularisation, testing frameworks, CI/CD). Drive innovation in pricing technology, exploring new frameworks, languages, and platforms. Proactively identify opportunities to enhance the user experience and analytical capabilities. Integrate pricing models with data sources (internal and external, including market feeds).

For this particular role there are some important qualifications and experience we need you to have. These include:
Must havesProven track record as a developer in an insurance or financial services environment; Strong working knowledge of programming languages (e.g. SQL, C#, VBA, Javascript, XML, JSON, Python); Experience building Excel-integrated applications and/or web-based pricing platforms. Strong database skills (SQL Server or similar) and data integration experience; Proactive, collaborative, flexible and adaptable with a drive to succeed; Lead other developers; and Ability to communicate solutions to the Head of Pricing Systems & Data, senior technical analysts and actuaries; Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences; Proactive, curious, and keen to drive continuous improvement.

DesirableExtensive experience of developing complex modelling applications in an underwriting environment Working knowledge and experience of Python - developing applications for pricing and modelling to implement pricing algorithms; Cloud development + Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
+ Proficiency in AWS or Azure;
Knowledge of design patterns and able to implement where appropriate; Working knowledge of software delivery and development process; Strong comprehension of working with large data sets and being able to write complex SQL queries; Have qualifications in an insurance or reinsurance environment working with catastrophe and/or actuarial models; Previous Lloyd's and PRA experience; Knowledge of DevOps practice - Desirable Skills Experience of GIT or TFS or Jira desirable; Managing code branches and releases; Strong personal time management with ability to respond to tight deadlines in a demanding environment; Strong relationship management skills - a good communicator who is able to interact with Underwriters, colleagues and senior management as well as command their respect; Possessing strong presentational skills both written and oral; Proactive, flexible and adaptable with a drive to succeed; and Work with IT support to implement new changes and provide BAU support and analysis.
