Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Producer to take up a key role in our theatre development team. Farnham Maltings theatre development has many strands, including our own production arm, the house southeast theatre network, and caravan; our international theatre initiative. This role will look after the work we produce ourselves to tour across the south east region and alongside this, our community theatre projects in Farnham and Surrey more widely.

We are looking for someone with a strategic eye but who gets stuck in, who is excited to grow the impact of our theatre projects in the region, someone who is interested and driven by the role theatre has in connecting communities and improving wellbeing. They should also be excited to create new works alongside a range of artists, developing ideas collaboratively and contributing to our artistic vision and plans. They should be an experienced creative producer, confident in their abilities, able to manage and lead a team, try new things, make things happen.

Purpose of the role:



The Senior Producer is a key role in the Farnham Maltings theatre development team.

They take a lead role in the development of Farnham Maltings productions working closely with the Director and Executive Producer to develop and fulfil the creative vision of this area of work.

Key to this is the production of our theatre touring programme which visits communities, big to very small, across the south east region and beyond. Alongside this is the responsibility of nurturing our local theatre projects in Farnham and Surrey more widely.

Objectives and Responsibilities:



To develop and produce or co-produce the theatre touring offer for South East communities made by Farnham Maltings

Develop and oversee the delivery of a varied programme of creative community opportunities at Farnham Maltings and in our community.

To actively contribute to the ambitions of the theatre development department at Farnham Maltings, developing and leading new projects as required.

Actively participate in Farnham Maltings management team representing the producing and community work of the theatre team.

Duties:



To develop and produce or co-produce the theatre touring offer for South East communities made by Farnham Maltings Work with the Executive Producer to develop and plan Farnham Maltings produced theatre offer for the South East region. Work closely with the broader producing team to ensure a strategic, joined -up approach to touring in the region. Co-ordinate creative teams and casting for each Farnham Maltings touring production with oversight of the Executive producer. Ensure the effective recruiting, negotiating, contracting and managing of freelance creatives and production teams. Negotiate and agree commissioning and rights agreements with writers and contracts with creative team members, actors, musicians, stage managers and freelance production staff, ensuring that Union agreements are observed. Effectively liaise and ensure ongoing communication with project partners in order to ensure that agreed contractual, budgetary and quality commitments are met. Actively consider environmental responsibility through all producing actions, referring to the Theatre Green book for guidance alongside industry experts. Forecast and manage project budgets effectively with oversight of the Executive Producer and Finance Director and reporting to schedule when required. Co-ordinate and liaise with creative and production teams to ensure the project schedules are maintained and adhered to. Oversee the show company logistics, including accommodation, travel and hosting. Ensure the effective marketing of each production liaising with colleagues in the Communications and Marketing team to build marketing and PR campaigns and agreeing a schedule of activity. Research and connect with a range of community locations across the southeast with the ambition of reaching new audiences and visiting new locations with our touring offer. Develop a range of opportunities and materials to support and encourage community promoters and programmers in the SE region. Oversee touring plans for each production working with the Community Touring Coordinator to ensure effective tour booking, contracting and administration. Ensure the effective internal and external evaluation of each project, providing data as required by all stakeholders and evidencing measures of success. Actively seek out investors and co-producers for Farnham Maltings; develop and deliver the future life potential of produced projects. Develop and oversee the delivery of a varied programme of creative community opportunities at Farnham Maltings and in our community. Actively explore, develop and test new approaches to enhancing wellbeing amongst our community through creative activity. Work alongside the creative communities team to deliver a range of community projects achieving the requirements of funding agreements by delivering excellent practice and evaluating impact. In collaboration with the Executive Producer and creative communities team seek out and establish new relationships with potential partners to ensure the most effective delivery and impact of our community work. Develop and oversee the effective programming and delivery of a varied programme of creative activities for children and young people through the school holidays at Farnham Maltings and in our community. Oversee and work with the Assistant Producer to develop the Maltings Youth Theatre and a range of opportunities for the young people involved. Extend the Farnham Maltings offer for schools and other educational organisations, supporting creative opportunities for children and young people across our produced programme. Develop the Farnham Maltings community theatre company and develop regular events and experiences for all those involved. To actively contribute to the ambitions of the theatre development department at Farnham Maltings, developing and leading new projects as required. Line Manage the Community Touring Coordinator and Assistant Producer, ensuring their work aligns with Farnham Maltings creative vision, is timely, comprehensive and effective. Work alongside the Executive Producer to develop approaches to supporting creative pathways for young adults and early career artists. Manage specific projects with associated artists ensuring commissions, contracts and associated conditions are adhered to and in line with best practice guidelines Work and closely communicate with other Farnham Maltings producers to ensure a joined up, complementary programme of work and supporting on specific projects to ensure smooth delivery of events. Actively seek opportunities for partnerships and new developments for Farnham Maltings to explore alongside their Associate artists and companies. Actively seek out and apply for new funding partnerships to support creative communities planning. Coordinate new and existing conversations with companies based in or making work for South East England. Lead advisory meetings with interested companies or artists, including an explanation of our services, signposting, advice etc Provide timely information for Arts Council NPO planning and monitoring as relevant and required. Work with the Finance Manager to prepare Theatre Tax Relief claims for all permissible activity. Support the CEO and Executive Producer in the creation and delivery of development plans and new strands of work. Keep up to date with current and emerging theatre news and developments, particularly for the South East. Attend regional, national and international meetings as and when necessary. Actively participate in Farnham Maltings Management team representing the producing and community work of the theatre team. Attend management meetings and effectively communicate plans and events with other departments. Contribute to the development of organisation wide initiatives, strategies and policies. Advocate for and represent Farnham Maltings as required.

Other Responsibilities:



Ensure the relevant policies and procedures, including the safeguarding policy are effective and adhered to through all planning and delivery. Effectively manage and monitor the budget for the projects and responsibilities listed in this Job description, achieving income and expenditure targets as agreed. Line manage an expanded team, temporary and freelance staff members as required. Ensure the effective evaluation and shared learning of Farnham Maltings Theatre Team projects to all stakeholders. To contribute generally to the work of Farnham Maltings undertaking such other tasks as are appropriate.
