About our Team

The Submissions Product Management Team sits in the Researchers and Librarians business unit of Elsevier and is responsible for delivering solutions to researchers that enable over 2.5m article submissions annually and support the peer-review and editorial workflows of one of the largest scholarly publishers in the world.

About the Role

Peer review plays a pivotal role in scholarly publishing, supporting the validation of academic work and improving the quality of published research. In this role you will take ownership of the e2e lifecycle of the products and features supporting finding and engaging experts. You will be part of a team of dedicated product professionals, each with their own roadmap and area of expertise, but who work together closely to achieve shared goals.

You will work within the wider publishing experience and will drive an agile, cross-functional squad of engineers, UX designers, subject-matter experts and analysts. You will collaborate with stakeholders in Technology, Operations and Publishing to support Elsevier\'s portfolio of 2,650 journals managed by more than 24,000 editors. You will be responsible for delivering valuable, feasible and usable products and services that delight authors and ensure they return to Elsevier for the best experience, from submission to trusted publication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product domain strategy for Engage Experts and champion future product direction
  • Interact frequently with researchers to identify their needs, and develop product features that solve their problems and achieve business goals
  • Generate new ideas by analysing product data for insights and participate in product discovery, according to defined processes, for new product development
  • Define and evaluate product hypotheses in a quantitative manner, such as AB testing
  • Create product development plans, conduct product-level opportunity assessment and contribute to business case development
Requirements
  • A passion for product management and solving user problems
  • Proven digital product management competencies and high standards, especially excelling at assessing difficult trade-offs and setting clear priorities for the product roadmap to deliver maximum value
  • Demonstrated long-term ownership and success in leading product lifecycle strategy and planning, including the release of multiple products and features, including proficiency in GTM strategy and process
  • Able to create new opportunities by applying different perspectives and questioning the status -quo
  • Experienced in using data and experiments to drive decision-making
  • Superb verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with others to achieve results
  • A self-starter with an enthusiastic, inquisitive nature
  • Demonstrated capabilities to deal with ambiguity and embrace change
  • Technically savvy: ability to understand the dynamics and workings of complex pieces of software, and how this impacts product decisions
  • Location flexible but must be able to travel occasionally, including to London, Amsterdam and Oxford
