Senior Technology Product Manager (Functional Genomics)

Contract: 18 month fixed-term contract
Hours: Full time 35 hours per week
We\'re also open to a variety of ways of working and flexible options, including part time and compressed hours.
Location: Stratford, London Office-based with high flexibility (1-2 days per week in the office)

As a Senior Product Manager, you will play an important role in helping us deliver the
\xe2\x80\x98Sustain\xe2\x80\x99 and \xe2\x80\x98Translate\xe2\x80\x99 pillars of our organisational strategy . You will do this by ensuring our
Functional Genomics Centre has the right digital tools to sustain and facilitate their lifesaving biomedical research.

In this role, you will be part of our technology Product team and a broader team supporting Cancer Research UK\xe2\x80\x99s Functional Genomics Centre which is part of our
Cancer Research Horizons entity (a world-class research partner that delivers drug development innovations translating them into effective treatments and diagnostics for cancer patients).

You will maximise value by defining and owning an outcome-driven product roadmap for Functional Genomics with a specific focus on products supporting the back-end AWS cloud infrastructure of our cutting-edge CRISPR biotechnology used for genome editing cancer treatments. This will involve collaborating with a cross-functional technology product team and supporting our Bioinformaticians and Scientific Data Specialists to evolve technology products and processes to meet our strategic objective while increasing efficiency, reducing costs, driving commercial value, and improving quality.

This is a unique Technology role collaborating with our lifesaving scientists; therefore, we are looking for an experienced clinical research professional, pharmaceutical professional, or Product Manager who has delivered technology solutions, change, and improvements within clinical environments. Your legacy at the end of this contract will be to have led product teams and scientific stakeholders empowering them to deliver a technology product vision and strategy, that will ultimately bring forward the day everybody can lead longer and better lives free from cancer.

What will I be doing?

  • Defining and owning the long-term vision and strategy for Scientific Data products by balancing business needs as well as real-world and user insight.
  • Managing your products through their full lifecycle, from inception through to growth, maturity, and decline.
  • Ensuring data-driven, user-centric decision-making to inform continuous development and optimisations.
  • Maximising product value by defining and owning an outcome-driven roadmap and product backlog prioritised by business value, problem spaces, market opportunities, and technology trends.
  • Ensuring products meet agreed performance targets covering user satisfaction, goal completion, and business goals.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders to understand their strategic objectives and create alignment with your product vision, strategy, and roadmap.
  • Tracking and managing performance and costs and identifying opportunities to drive down costs and increase value.
  • Creating business cases for large product development efforts with an understanding of resource requirements for successful delivery.
  • Embracing current legacy systems and processes taking ownership of incumbent platforms and processes with a view to either migrate, replace, or take out of service.
  • Collaborating with the Service Manager to ensure products have the necessary support process mechanisms to ensure quality, adherence to SLAs, and protection against the reputational impacts associated with performance issues.
  • Supporting the definition and delivery of your wider Technology Portfolio and product visions.
  • Acting as a role model, mentor, and leader setting high professional standards for performance and behaviour for junior members of the team.
  • Influencing at all levels using clear and persuasive arguments, building internal networks for collaboration, and knowledge sharing with other parts of the charity.


What skills will I need?

To be considered for this role, you must have the right to work in the UK as we are not able to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
  • Either an experienced clinical research professional, pharmaceutical professional, or Product Manager who has sourced or implemented technology solutions, change, and improvements within clinical environments.
  • Significant experience in planning, producing, and delivering user-centric technology product changes demonstrating a strong understanding of:
    • Data products
    • User-centric change while managing and understanding the trade-off between short-term requirements and longer-term vision
    • Product modelling and Minimum Viable Product definition
    • Product analytics and KPI definition
    • Quality assurance
  • Working knowledge of Agile and Lean ways of working.
  • History of building strong stakeholder relationships with the ability to communicate with non-technical, technical, and scientific stakeholders.
  • Available for an 18-month contract.
