The Senior IT Project Engineer will primarily play a key technical role within IT project teams, providing expert design and implementation support and expertise to ensure the successful delivery of enhancements or changes to digital systems across all CGT Catapult facilities, whilst also reporting progress in accordance with CGT Catapult's IT project delivery governance.
In addition to project responsibilities, the Senior IT Project Engineer will provide 2nd and 3rd Line support and problem management for in-service technology solutions across all CGT Catapult facilities, ensuring that business functions remain operational and within regulatory compliance.
This role requires deep technical expertise and specialist knowledge, in one or more IT or business services, and will be responsible for providing Level 3 support to investigate design or implementation issues within defined area(s) of specialism.
Frequent and regular attendance across all CGT Catapult facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead infrastructure projects involving Windows Server technologies and Active Directory and Cloud Based Azure type systems
Design, implement, and support Microsoft infrastructure services: AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO
Liaise with our MSP around support of our managed virtual environments (VMware) network and storage solutions
Troubleshoot complex system issues and provide2nd and 3rd line support
Collaborate with network, security, and application teams to ensure seamless integration
Maintain and optimise server performance, availability, and scalability
Develop and enforce infrastructure standards, policies, and procedures
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members
Ensure compliance with ITIL v3/4 and security best practices
Problem management escalation point for 1st and 2nd Line IT support teams
2nd/3rd line support of IT Lab Equipment support
Technical Project ownership, supporting IT Project Managers with scoping and deployment of business and IT initiated projects including client support and collaboration on cost saving and improvement initiatives
Provide support across the IT Engineering team during periods of planned leave
Experience:
Proven experience in a similar role, such as a Project Engineer, Senior Delivery Engineer, or Windows or Infrastructure Engineer
Strong experience with Microsoft systems and applications both within on-premises and cloud environments
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and communicate effectively at all levels
Experience in managing and supporting IT networks across multiple facilities and locations
Experience working within GMP or other regulated environments (desirable)
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, and Group Policy
Strong knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and email routing protocols
Familiarity with Intune, PowerShell scripting, and automation tools like Power Automate
Experience with Office 365 integration SharePoint and Microsoft business apps (Power Platforms)
Understanding of networking and storage technologies
Proven track record in leading infrastructure projects and system migrations
Ticket management Freshworks or similar
Project implementation utilising agile approach methodologies

Education / Qualifications:
Degree-level education in Computer Science/ Information Technology or equivalent professional experience
ITIL v3/4 certification (essential)
MCSE, MCSA, or AWS/VCP/Azure are highly desirable
