Job Description

To provide person-centred, trauma-informed support to individuals who have had contact with the justice system, with the aim of reducing reoffending, supporting rehabilitation, and facilitating reintegration into the community. This role recognises the value of lived experience in building trust, rapport, and offering authentic, empathetic support.

Key Responsibilities:



Deliver one-to-one and group support to individuals pre- and post-release from custody or involved in community-based justice services including unpaid work orders. Build trusting, non-judgemental relationships that empower individuals to achieve personal goals around housing, employment, health, relationships, and community engagement. Collaborate with statutory services (e.g., probation, housing, health, addiction services) to ensure person centred support. Support individuals through their journey of by providing practical help and work based experiences. Use lived experience (where applicable and appropriate) to inspire hope, demonstrate change is possible, and reduce stigma. Maintain accurate, confidential records and contribute to monitoring and evaluation activities. Adhere to safeguarding, risk management, and data protection policies at all times.

Person Specification:



Essential:



Experience supporting people who face complex needs such as offending, homelessness, substance misuse, or poor mental health. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage people in challenging circumstances. Commitment to person-centred and trauma-informed approaches. Understanding of the barriers faced by people involved in the criminal justice system. Ability to work flexibly, independently, and as part of a team. IT literacy and good record-keeping skills.

Desirable



Full Driving Licence Lived experience of the justice system or of overcoming similar barriers (e.g., addiction, homelessness, mental health challenges). Previous work in justice, homelessness, or community-based support settings. Knowledge of local services and referral pathways. Peer mentoring or facilitation experience.

Additional Information:



Travel to community locations, including prisons and service hubs, may be required. Post subject to enhanced DBS / PVG check. Training and support will be provided.
