General Reinsurance, London Branch (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG) is offering an opportunity for

a Senior Property Underwriter

in our

London Treaty Team.

Main Purpose of the Role

You will be responsible for risk assessment, pricing, and underwriting of Property Treaties for both London market and UK company market business. Reporting to the London Treaty Chief Underwriting Officer, you will manage reinsurance business in accordance with underwriting authorities and client strategies.


Our position is based in the City of London with a requirement to be in the office for a minimum of 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting Non-Proportional Risk XL and Proportional Property treaties:

Calculating the required technical premium. Deciding on terms and conditions in accordance with the underwriting guidelines, internal directives, targets and client strategies. Responsibility for the administration of the contracts assigned, including exposure monitoring and accumulation assessment. Leading property renewal meetings with a portfolio of clients and working with the account executives to assess client performance and identify new business opportunities. Performing result and portfolio analysis and preparing line of business reports. Developing and implementing a strategy for the London Property Treaty book. Participation in planning and controlling activities. Assuming special tasks, for example, participating / supporting local and group wide international working groups and projects; participating in reviews, training of staff; contributing to market events.

Qualifications & Experience

Extensive proven experience in Property (Re)insurance, ideally with the majority in reinsurance; High degree of competence with IT systems; Experience of independently pricing and underwriting property business; Great team-worker and communicator; Strong entrepreneurial spirit and proactivity; Ability to work under pressure and with a multitasking approach; Experience mentoring or managing others will be advantageous.
