Overview

We are seeking a commercially astute and experienced Freelance Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a young & ambitious main contracting business on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will have a solid background working for a main contractorin and have experience working on projects in the office fit-out & high-end residential refurbishment sector, with the ability to manage cost planning, procurement, valuations, and final accounts with minimal supervision. This is a flexible freelance role suitable for a QS who can hit the ground running and manage multiple projects while upholding the financial integrity of prestigious, design-led schemes.

Responsibilities

Oversee the full QS function on office fit-out, residential refurbishment and new build projects. Prepare accurate cost plans, budgets, and cash flow forecasts. Manage procurement of subcontract packages, including tendering, analysis, and contract negotiation. Prepare, submit, and agree monthly valuations and applications for payment. Assess subcontractor applications and variations, issuing payment notices and payless notices as required. Prepare accurate monthly CVRs, reporting to the directors. Identify, value, and negotiate variations and change orders. Lead final account negotiations with clients and subcontractors. Ensure contractual compliance and maintain meticulous financial records. Attend site and commercial meetings as needed.

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of experience in quantity surveying. Experience working for a main contractor delivering refurbishment, fit-out and/ or new build projects over 1m. Excellent working knowledge of JCT contracts. Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills. Proficiency with IT software (e.g. Excel). Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal oversight. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Available for freelance/contract work, ideally with immediate or short notice availability.

Engagement Terms

Competitive day rate Flexible working arrangements (combination of office/site as required and part remote working). Projects based in Central London and the South East.

Pay: 350.00-425.00 per day
