A vacancy has arisen within site services, technical for a senior radiometric specialist. The purpose of the post is to provide radiometric support to Dounreay to promote and deliver an effective and compliant radiometric service that adheres to the site's waste and characterisation strategies.



The job holder will be responsible for delivering specialist advice that promotes the effective and efficient utilisation of waste and characterisation processes. This includes but is not limited to set-up, control and maintenance of the Dounreay site non-destructive assay systems and undertaking assessments and calculations to characterise materials and decommissioning facilities.


Main Responsibilities:




Provide specialist radiometric support to interface with internal and external stakeholders including NDA, SEPA and ONR Represent NRS Dounreay at national and international waste characterisation forums Apply specialised radiometric knowledge and experience to assist Dounreay Provide advice on radiometrics to the waste directorate and site project teams Mentor radiometric specialists on matters related to regulatory and waste compliance Provide site training on waste and fuel characterisation techniques Develop and implement improvements to the characterisation parts of the Dounreay waste management system including but not limited to technical specifications, procedures and advice notes Manage, model and interpret waste characterisation data sets Review and approve/endorse radiometric documentation including advice notes and activity assessments Act as a key stakeholder in a range of waste processes, including Dounreay modification report's, hazard and operability studies, unusual occurrence report investigations, and best practicable means assessments Perform the responsibilities of authorisations relevant to post Manage Dounreay staff as a line manager

Aptitudes and Experience:




Degree in Science/Environmental or equivalent qualifications plus experience Comprehensive waste/fuel characterisation experience Experience using instrumentation, radiometrics, and computer modelling would be advantageous Post specific capability analysis assessment 10
