We are looking to recruit a Senior Civil Engineer who has already experienced working in the rail sector and wants to build on their knowledge by leading the design on projects or perform a key role on larger multidisciplinary projects. Working in our Glasgow office you will be involved in projects both locally in Scotland as well as supporting projects run from our other offices throughout the UK and overseas. Our national and global network of offices will allow you to work for a range of clients including Network Rail, local authorities, contractors and private clients.

Our current workload includes decarbonisation schemes, including the Aberdeen to Central Belt project, assisting the rail industry in achieving carbon reduction targets through delivery of multidisciplinary design projects. We are also at the forefront of stations design having recently delivered Kintore Station, Inverness Airport Station and East Linton Station. These projects require the team to design line side infrastructure and drainage, assess and modify existing stations, and prepare designs for new stations. We also support our colleagues throughout the UK on a variety of schemes from new rail routes to power upgrades.

The ideal candidate will be able to take on design responsibility from day one while supported by a strong team of CEMs and CREs and will be expected to mentor junior staff to reach their full potential. Ideally you will have previous CRE experience or the ability to take on the CRE role in future.

The successful candidate will be expected to have detailed civil and structural design experience, preferably within the rail sector. Ideally the experience will encompass all stages of the design process from feasibility to construction.

Essentially a technical role the successful candidate would also be expected to provide guidance and mentorship to junior subordinate staff.

Job Duties:

  • Preparation of technical outputs to the highest standards in accordance with the AECOM quality management system;
  • Provide assistance to senior management in the preparation of technical and financial proposals.
  • Perform specific portions of a broader multi-disciplinary assignment under supervision of an experienced CRE or CEM, or work independently on smaller assignments.
  • Gather and correlate engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and specification of testing requirements.
  • Propose approaches to solve new problems encountered.
  • Identify discrepancies in results.
  • Provide guidance to entry level engineers.
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with minimal supervision.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Design experience in rail civil engineering projects
  • Suitable experience of design software.
Qualifications
  • Masters or Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering
