Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You will be joining the Mental Health Innovation team within the wider Mental Health programme, reporting to a Research Lead.
The Mental Health Innovation team focuses on finding, trialling and scaling of new and improved mental health interventions globally, spanning digital, pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.
What will I be doing?
As Senior Research Manager, you will lead funding of trials, studies and other projects to develop, research and scale new and improved interventions, scope opportunities for future research and development, and manage relationships with awardees and suppliers.
Key responsibilities include:Contributing to the leadership, development and delivery of the Mental Health strategy, ensuring strategic objectives are met.
Leading on scoping areas of interest, shaping and advancing new areas of work, and identifying suitable routes for the development and delivery of new activities.
Managing larger projects independently, acting as the main point of contact and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
Contributing to the effective delivery of funding decisions, providing critical scientific assessment of applications, participating in decision-making and making clear recommendations to senior management.
Work closely with our team of lived experience advisors to embed lived experience expertise in the development and delivery of projects.
Ensuring a breadth and depth of knowledge of your area and the wider research and funding landscape, sharing knowledge and expertise to contribute to the work of the Mental Health Team and throughout Wellcome.
Using deep understanding of mental health stakeholders to identify, establish and maintain key relationships, understanding their needs and working in partnership.
Contributing to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.
Is this job for me?
We are looking for someone with substantial experience of working on research related to interventions in mental health. We are particularly looking for expertise in psychological and social interventions, and expertise in research or implementation of mental health innovations in low- and middle-income countries. Given our portfolio of projects in Africa, we would particularly welcome expertise of working in countries in Africa.
Knowledge and expertise of clinical trials would be an advantage. Experience across our other intervention portfolios (digital and pharma) would also be an advantage. A PhD is not essential.

Experience of delivering complex projects and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders
