As an Actuary within the Actuarial Solutions and Analytics (ASA) team reporting directly to the Head of Strategy and Governance, you will closely work with the reserving actuaries and other members of the Actuarial Financial Reporting (AFR) team as well as key stakeholders outside of Actuarial.



You will be responsible for assisting in the governance of the end-to-end reserving process and the delivery of any change. This role demands a robust understanding of actuarial principles, excellent analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic team and the flexibility to work on multiple projects at the same time.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

Strategic Development:Assisting in the design, build, testing, roll out and governance of any change to our reserving processes. These range from small continuous-improvement initiatives undertaken within AFR to multi-year strategic transformation projects across AXA XL with a constant focus on simplification, innovation, new actuarial techniques, new technologies, and enabling our governance rather than our processes to dictate our workflow and timelines. Special Projects:Assisting on special projects impacting the AFR team as and when they arise. These could include researching new technologies, creating new reports or implementing new methodologies and assumptions potentially impacting the reserving analysis. Governance Framework:Maintaining and updating the governance framework for the end-to-end reserving process and ensuring all the associated controls are in place and being performed on a timely basis. This will include interaction with the internal controls team, internal audit, external audit and risk management. BAU Oversight:Assisting in the oversight of the Business As Usual (BAU) reserving processes to ensure our deliverables are provided to our stakeholders on time and to requirements. This will include running regular status meetings across the wider Actuarial Financial Reporting (AFR) team and across geographies, collaborating with and influencing all those involved, solutioning issues as and when they arise, and developing various workflow tools to monitor progress.

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

Actuarial Experience: Relevant experience within the non-life insurance Industry, with a significant focus on reserving.*
Technical Proficiency:Experience in reserving methodologies, actuarial software tools, and relevant statistical techniques. Able to form independent actuarial judgements while incorporating business context. Software Skills:Excellent computer application skills, specifically Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Technical expertise in SQL, Python or VBA would be an added advantage, but not essential. Planning & Organisation:A track record which demonstrates an ability to manage multiple conflicting tasks and outputs while ensuring timely delivery. Able to plan long term deliverables and ensure tasks are planned and completed accordingly and that any delays or complications are communicated early and resolved appropriately. Collaboration:Ability to work with and influence actuarial and non-actuarial teams across geographies. Able to review the work of others and provide constructive challenge. Communication:Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Capable of communicating complex actuarial results and insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Business Partnering:Able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the actuarial reserving process, as well as translate actuarial output to stakeholders. Also able to demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the characteristics and risks associated with the lines of business written within the division. Self-Driven and Solution Oriented:Highly motivated, proactive, and able to work self-directed with minimal supervision. Brings a problem-solving mindset and a willingness to challenge the status-quo constructively. Innovative:Curious and forward-thinking, with a desire to improve processes and contribute to business strategy through data-driven insights and actuarial perspectives. Commercially Aware:Knowledge of trends and practices within the insurance industry, supported by knowledge of current economic conditions and the threats that these might pose to business. Professional Qualification:Qualified or nearly qualified actuary (e.g. Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, Society of Actuaries, Institute of Actuaries of India, or equivalent) with a proven track record of continuing professional development.
