Senior Residential Children's Practitioners play a crucial role in bringing this vision to life. They lead by example, supporting and guiding a team of Residential Children's Practitioners while ensuring high-quality therapeutic care is consistently delivered.
Purpose of the Role
As a Senior Residential Children's Practitioner, you will:
Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to a team of Residential Children's Practitioners.
Use the Roots to Wings model to support emotional safety, growth, and independence for children and young people.
Ensure high-quality care is delivered consistently, aligned with therapeutic principles.
Take on management responsibilities in the absence of the Home Manager or Deputy Manager.
Promote a safe, nurturing, and structured environment that fosters healing and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision
Lead, motivate, and support a team of Residential Children's Practitioners, promoting a culture of reflective practice.
Provide regular supervision and coaching to staff, promoting best practice and therapeutic consistency.
Support the Home Manager and Deputy Manager in implementing and maintaining high standards of care.
Take responsibility for the home in the absence of the Home Manager or Deputy Manager.
Therapeutic Care and Support
Embed the Roots to Wings model, ensuring therapeutic principles are consistently applied.
Build trusting relationships with children, using emotionally attuned, trauma-informed communication.
Provide direct therapeutic care where needed, supporting emotional regulation and resilience.
Monitor the emotional wellbeing of children and identify signs of distress, ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed.
Planning and Documentation
Oversee the development, implementation, and review of care plans in collaboration with the clinical and education teams.
Maintain accurate, reflective records in line with Roots to Wings documentation processes, including daily logs and therapeutic observations.
Lead and participate in multidisciplinary reviews, children's panels, and care planning meetings.
Team Development and Wellbeing
Promote a positive, supportive team culture through regular reflective practice and team meetings.
Ensure all team members understand and consistently use the Roots to Wings model.
Access regular clinical consultation to enhance understanding, support wellbeing, and maintain therapeutic practice.
Health and Safety
Ensure the home is a safe environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
Manage incidents and challenging behaviours using non-punitive, trauma-informed approaches.
Complete and review risk assessments and stay-safe strategies.
