As a growing roastery known for our quality, integrity, and innovation, we are looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Roaster to join our team and help drive our roasting operations to the next level.
Job Summary
The Senior Roaster is a key member of the production team, responsible for managing day-to-day roasting operations, maintaining quality standards, and contributing to the continual evolution of our roast profiles. This role requires deep expertise in specialty coffee roasting, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to lead and mentor others.
Key Responsibilities
Roast coffee daily according to production needs, adhering to established profiles and quality benchmarks.
Collaborate with the Head of Coffee on profile development, quality control, and green coffee assessments.
Calibrate and maintain roasting equipment, including daily maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
Maintain detailed production and QC records using Cropster (or relevant software).
Support green coffee inventory management and contribute to sourcing decisions.
Conduct regular cuppings for QC, profile evaluation, and team training.
Provide mentorship and training to junior roasting and production staff.
Help innovate and refine internal processes to improve consistency, efficiency, and sustainability.
Represent The Milk Shed at industry events, trade shows, or producer trips as needed.
Qualifications
3-5+ years of professional experience in specialty coffee roasting, including profile development and QC.
Deep knowledge of green coffee, roast curves, sensory evaluation, and roasting theory.
Experience with commercial roasting machines (e.g. Cropster.)
Knowledge of production systems - including Shopify and Orderspace.
Proficiency with roasting software (Cropster)
Strong cupping and sensory skills; Q Grader certification is a plus.
Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
Team-oriented with excellent communication and leadership skills.
A passion for coffee, sustainability, and ongoing learning.
