Our client, a vibrant and high-achieving secondary academy based in Croydon, is seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated Senior Science Technician to join their dedicated team from September 2025. As a Senior Science Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Science curriculum (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), ensuring that teaching staff and students benefit from a well-organised and safe practical learning environment. This role involves a blend of technical expertise, team management, and administrative coordination, making it ideal for someone with strong scientific knowledge and a proactive, collaborative approach.
Main Responsibilities:
Prepare and maintain equipment and materials to support science lessons
Assist in practical lessons and support enrichment activities
Oversee the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials
Manage and coordinate the science technician team, including workload allocation and performance reviews
Conduct safety checks, maintain risk assessments, and ensure Health & Safety compliance
Keep accurate records and manage inventory for chemicals, resources, and equipment
Support teaching staff with practical demonstrations and layout setup in laboratories
Provide general administrative and resource support to the Science department
Maintain the welfare of plants and animals used for scientific study
Modify or create equipment as required from staff instructions or lesson needs
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Relevant qualifications and/or further training in science or laboratory practice
Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations related to science education
Strong numeracy, literacy, organisational, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience working in a laboratory or school science setting
Ability to manage and train other technicians
A flexible and proactive mindset with the capacity to adapt to changing priorities
