Senior Scientist Cell Biology (intracellular Antibody Validation) (maternity Cover – Permanent)

London, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Company Overview:

Kodiform Therapeutics

is a discovery stage spin-out from the Institute of Cancer Research and the University of Oxford, based on the pioneering research of our Founders, Professors Terry Rabbitts and Angela Russell. We focus on developing small molecule inhibitors targeting hard-to-drug proteins, including intrinsically disordered proteins, using our innovative intracellular antibody (iDAb) platform. Our technology facilitates the identification of new functional binding sites on these proteins, opening up new avenues for targeting them with small molecules. Kodiform Therapeutics is based at the thriving science innovation hub at Scale Space in White City, London.

Role overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Scientist to join our growing biotech start-up.

In this role, you will lead the development and validation of cellular assays crucial for advancing our iDAb platform. You will apply your deep expertise in cellular and molecular biology, to design, execute and interpret experiments to validate newly identified intracellular antibodies. You will play a key role in expanding our R&D capabilities, contributing strategically to our drug discovery efforts.

The ideal candidate has broad understanding of the drug discovery process, acquired preferably in a biotech or pharma setting, with a strong hands-on experience for target validation and target engagement/mechanism of action studies, and small molecules screening. You are organised, keep meticulous records and are an effective team player, eager to mentor junior colleagues and contribute to our inclusive company culture.

This role is currently maternity cover but as we are a small and growing company the opportunity to make the position permanent may arise. We offer a competitive salary and pension.

Key Responsibilities

Independently develop and optimise robust cellular assays to identify and characterise novel functional intracellular antibody binding sites on disordered proteins.

Lead target engagement/mechanism of action studies to support drug discovery projects.

Maintain meticulous experimental records and contribute to data analysis and interpretation.

Support the expansion and operational growth of Kodiform's R&D laboratory functions.

Mentor and manage junior scientists and technicians, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.

Required Qualifications and Experience

PhD in relevant field (e.g. cancer cell biology, or related discipline)

Minimum 3 years post-PhD experience in a research-intensive environment, ideally within biotech or pharmaceutical industry.

Proven expertise in advanced cellular techniques, such as BRET, reporter assays, CRISPR gene editing, stable cell line generation (lentivirus shRNA transduction), RNA seq data analysis, RT-qPCR, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy and metabolic assays, for target validation and cellular target engagement/mechanism of action studies.

Strong problem-solving skills and proven ability to deliver decision-making data

Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with a collaborative mindset.

Highly desirable experience:

Experience in HTS assay development and automation for small molecule screening.

Knowledge of antibody structure, intracellular expression systems, and protein biochemistry.

Experience interacting with CROs.

Project management experience in R&D settings, but academic postings will be considered if the candidate has highly suited specific experimental experience and/or experience working with industry collaborators.

Experience managing or mentoring junior team members.
