Job Description

Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Simulator Development Engineer to join our Simulator Development Team within the Performance Simulation and Modelling Group.

This role sits at the heart of our performance ambition. You'll play a key part in the development, evolution, and operation of our state-of-the-art Driver-in-the-Loop (DIL) simulator, directly supporting vehicle development and contributing to our long-term objective of becoming an FIA Constructors' Championship-winning team.

Working closely with Vehicle Model Development, Vehicle Performance, Software, Controls, Race Engineering, and Aerodynamics, this is a highly collaborative role combining deep technical expertise with real-world performance impact.

Key Responsibilities

Support the ongoing development and operation of the team's DIL simulators, including recently commissioned and future platforms. Create, develop, integrate, and maintain vehicle, system, and environment models for real-time simulator use. Apply model correlation techniques to identify and resolve simulator fidelity issues. Develop new simulation, control, and motion cueing algorithms to enhance simulator capability and realism. Work on real-time and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation solutions. Support simulator track library development, including LiDAR data processing and graphics integration. Contribute to the development and maintenance of tools for setup, diagnostics, data display, simulation, and analysis. Specify and support physical testing of simulator-related hardware and control systems. Collaborate proactively across departments, contributing effectively to meetings and technical reviews. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of vehicle dynamics, simulator technologies, and industry best practice

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

Excellent degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related discipline. Strong problem-solving, mathematical, and analytical skills. Solid understanding of numerical methods, optimisation, and control theory. Ability to devise and implement simulation tools and algorithms to support high-level engineering decision-making. Experience working effectively in cross-functional teams, with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly, concisely, and professionally, often to tight deadlines. Calm, confident approach under pressure with a strong results-driven mindset.

Desirable

Postgraduate qualification (Master's or PhD). Experience in high-level motorsport, ideally Formula 1. Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics and performance simulation, with practical application. Coding experience in MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, and other languages such as Python or C#. Experience with motion cueing algorithms, motion perception, and control loading systems. Familiarity with real-time systems and HIL simulators. Experience with simulator systems including LiDAR processing, graphics, and projection hardware/software. Modelling experience across mechanical, hydraulic, thermal, or electrical systems, including correlation techniques. Experience with tools such as ATLAS, DSPACE, DYMOLA, SystemMonitor/TAG SECU, Jira, Git, Bitbucket. Exposure to tyre modelling, autonomous racing systems, or advanced control techniques.
