Job Description

Who we are looking for

If you're a productive developer, passionate about tech, want to be challenged, want to have an impact, whilst having fun and be well rewarded in return, then we could be a good fit for you.

We're looking for an experienced, logically minded and organised developer, with a common sense and holistic approach to his/her work. A developer who keeps up to date with new tech and standards and who builds code in the most efficient, simple and clean way possible. We're looking for someone who has a passion for his/her work and who likes to keep learning and developing their skills.

Who we are

We are an online accounting and technology company leading the way in how small businesses and accountants work together in the UK. We offer a simple and convenient, hassle free way for small businesses across the UK to stay compliant with their reporting requirements through the use of online accounting software and a team of friendly accountants (amongst other staff) based in our Wirral office.

Our goal is to become the most simple and easy to use accounting service in the UK and to help over 100,000 small businesses thrive.

What we can offer you

At our company, we are committed to finding innovative ways to attract and retain good and talented people. We place a strong emphasis on investing in our employees' development and actively seeking their feedback to enhance their overall experience. By doing so, we aim to strengthen the company as a whole and foster long-term loyalty among our team.

Working with us, you can expect:

100% remote working with no mandatory meetups. Fast paced and interesting projects, many of which will be greenfield. The opportunity to contribute to and make important project decisions. To put your own stamp on a project and commit code which tens of thousands of users will benefit from. A non-corporate environment. Although we are an established company, you will not be a cog in a big machine going from meeting to meeting. We have a flat structure and you will work with the ultimate decision makers. We are also lean and like to have fun while we work. We only have processes that are logical, well considered and work. No death by meeting. There will not be a scrum master or endless (or pointless) meetings. The only calls you will have will be warranted and useful. An unlimited amount of time and budget to learn whatever you deem useful to carry out the projects you're involved with. An environment which is conducive to introverts as well as extroverts. An environment where we can respectfully disagree with one another to ensure we adopt the best solutions, and not the solutions advocated by 'those who shout the loudest'. A strictly meritocratic environment. We only make personnel decisions based on merit. We have a policy that strictly prohibits the promotion of political or ideological ideas and agendas. We maintain a neutral environment where discussions and involvement in politics are avoided as a general principle. To take full ownership of projects or specific components within projects. To work closely with the company's primary decision makers, enabling your contributions to be duly acknowledged and rewarded. To prioritise thoughtful decision-making over blindly following trends, processes, or shiny technologies. Our approach is rooted in ensuring that every action we take is logical and meaningful. A generous bonus scheme to reward productive developers that go above and beyond. To work with a company that does not rely on funding. Our budgets are from company profits, and as an established, and low risk company you will not experience the volatility you may have in a startup that relies on venture funding or that has many shareholders with different interests to consider. An abundance of work available. With approximately 12 innovative greenfield projects in the pipeline, as well as ongoing projects for improvement and maintenance, you can be confident that you will always have engaging assignments to work on. To undertake a variety of complex projects that offer you the opportunity to work on challenging assignments. These projects will push your limits, enabling continuous personal and professional growth as you overcome new hurdles and expand your capabilities. Career progression. We believe in promoting and progressing within. We will only ever hire externally if it is not possible for an existing employee to do the job, or at least learn the skills needed to be able to do the job.

The specifics of what we're looking for

Python and one of the Javascript/Typescript frameworks are required. Full stack only. Strong English and good communication skills. Someone who is located in the UK. Someone who doesn't need too much hand holding. That is, someone willing to put in time to research, experiment and find solutions. Someone who is open to constructive feedback, just as the company owners and managers are from employees. A developer that is relatively quick at debugging and understanding problems. Good and preferably varied experience.
