Senior Sound Technician
Duration: Permanent
Salary: 30,000 - 35,000 per annum
Working Hours/Pattern: 40hrs per week, including evenings and weekends. Additional hours may be required determined by the need of the business. The post holder can take time off in lieu with authorisation from line manager.
Reporting to: Technical Manager
Responsible for: No direct management. Supervision of casual/freelance staff.
Annual Leave: 28 days per annum including bank holidays

About this role:
The post holder will work primarily on productions and events within the Main House in a Sound No.1 capacity, including musical theatre mixing and QLab playback of the sound for performances, but with work on performances and events in the Studio and Other Spaces, in a Sound, Lighting or Stage capacity as required. As a member of the Technical Department, the post holder will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of, setting up and a variety of operational duties in respect of the productions and events staged by the theatre and external companies, as well as the routine maintenance of the facility, as directed by the Technical Manager.
Key responsibilities:
To act as the Primary Sound Engineer in the Main House.
Setting up and programming QLab and the Sound Desk for Daytime Events and assist in programming QLab and the Sound Desk for the Main Performances.
Set up any bands and instruments for rehearsals and productions.
With other members of the Technical Department, set up sound, lighting and AV equipment as needed.
Assist in the preparation & maintain accurate plots and records detailing all aspects of performance related equipment.
Maintain and oversee the proper functioning of the sound system and related instruments & equipment.
Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to the sound system and related instruments & equipment
To promote and safeguard the welfare of persons for whom you are responsible for and meet.
To ensure full compliance with all statutory regulations and health and safety requirements, communicating concerns to the line manager.
To attend training as required.
Support and oversee external technicians and users of the performance, meeting and event spaces
Support and assist with Lighting, AV, Stage, Flying and Rigging if required.
In consultation with Head of Production and Technical Manager
To hire /purchase specialist equipment as needed
To identify key staff and provide training on equipment and processes as required.
To ensure staff & freelancers have adequate knowledge of productions, theatre use and equipment for all events
To ensure adequate event and technical support is in place when absent
To provide first-line maintenance support for all relevant technical equipment, machines, fixtures and fittings
To ensure all equipment is stored safely and is accessible to others when absent
To liaise with IT staff over software requirements and system support
Other Duties
Attend and contribute to staff and departmental meetings
Undertake training and development as required
Any other duties as may be reasonably required
Act as associate Sound Designer where appropriate
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential
Experience working in Live Theatre and Musicals, ideally in a producing house or equivalent.
Strong, proven experience in mixing for Live Theatre and Musicals.
Experience setting up and working with Bands and Actor/-Musicians in a stage setting
Experience with using and maintaining Radio Mics
Proficient programming of QLAB
Working Knowledge of Yamaha sound desks and Dante networks
Good knowledge of current sound equipment and practices
Ability to demonstrate initiative and adaptability
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Proficient user of Microsoft Office.
Desirable
Strong, proven experience in lighting, stage or flying and rigging, and a good working knowledge of the other disciplines.
Good knowledge of AV and projection for use in a theatre environment
Ability to solder, install, repair and maintain cables & electronics
Good knowledge of Vectorworks and AutoCAD
Ability to comfortably work at height using a variety of access equipment including ladders and tallescopes
Knowledge of Green Go Digital Comms & Interspace Cuelights
