Job Description

1.1 To coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients. This involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities.

1.2 To exercise clinical judgment and decision making about patient needs in accordance with locally agreed protocols and individualised care plans of the patients within Endoscopy.

1.3 To help foster a supportive working environment and maintain staff morale

1.4 To assume personal accountability for nursing care delivered to a patient in accordance with the NMC code of conduct.

There is an expectation for post holders:

To promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, visitors and staff To participate in Trust initiatives around infection control and care quality indicators To assist with any local or trust initiatives to ensure the continuous improvement of the quality of services and safeguarding of high standards of care To be aware of all hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with other health care professionals to ensure that these are observed

To plan, document, deliver and evaluate care plans from admission through to discharge / transfer discussing this with the patient, their family and multi-disciplinary teams and to alert the Charge

Nurse of any changes.



To provide skilled care and expertise in venepuncture and / or cannulation.



To be able to safely administer medications essential within the Endoscopy practice including the monitoring of possible side-effects and escalating in accordance to locally agreed protocols.

Administer medicines as prescribed with adherence to Guidelines for Medicines Administration and The Royal Marsden Medicines Management Policy.



To be able to provide education and support to patients having their treatment within Endoscopy. This includes producing and using appropriate materials to ensure optimum understanding of

nursing care and the likely outcome.



Act as patient advocate in line with current health policy and Trust strategy and to actively apply in depth knowledge of holistic/ socio-economic and cultural aspects of the care to clients within your

specific speciality, acting as a role model and resource for patients, relatives, and staff.



To be knowledgeable of any treatment in progress in the specialty they are working in, and to adopt a problem-solving approach to symptom management and minimizing adverse reactions

To complete the first level assessment of patients with cancer and their families to gain an understanding of their physiological, psycho-social, spiritual and cultural needs and to develop a

positive, realistic and supportive attitude to ensure that these needs are met.



To be clinically safe and proficient within the different areas of Endoscopy.

a. Pre-assessment - sedation and general anaesthetic

b. Bowel preparation dispensing

c. Hydrogen breath testing clinic

d. Admissions- preparation of patients on the day of the procedure

e. Procedure Room - assisting endoscopists with the following procedures as a minimum

(Colonoscopy, Gastroscopy, Endoscopy Ultrasound EUS/FNA, EMR, Polypectomy, Cystoscopy,

ESD)

f. Recovery and Discharge - 1

st and 2nd stage recovery of patients having sedation and general

anaesthetic
