This post is primarily focussed upon working within the CAMHS adolescent in-patient unit, but will also involve working closely with the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly community CAMHS team, including working with young people who are attending the day-patient facility, to ensure a seamless whole service approach. The role of Senior Staff Nurse involves working a rotational shift pattern, including day and night shifts, weekends and bank holidays as required.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Staff Nurse will regularly take on the role of shift clinical and operational supervisor, often as the senior nurse on duty (and will regularly deputise for the in-patient Ward Manager) and will plan, monitor and oversee the work of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of the highest quality of care for the young people who have been admitted to the adolescent in- patient unit and their families.
The post holder will be the named Care Coordinator for the care to a group of young people who have been admitted to the in-patient unit. The post holder will take an active part in the therapeutic programme, facilitating groups and individual work as necessary whilst carrying out nursing procedures to a standard that ensures safe and effective care, and complies with The Nursing and Midwifery Councils Code of Professional Conduct.
The Senior Staff Nurse must be a good team worker and have the ability to motivate members of the team as well as acting as a positive role model for staff and be able to lead in areas of clinical excellence and the maintenance of best practice.
Working for our organisation
We're an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people's physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.
We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.
Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.
We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.
Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increase the numbers of people who use out services.
