Purpose
As a senior member of the department your responsibilities will include the delivery and project management of the Structural and Civil Engineering Design on your projects. You shall also be responsible for maintaining and improving the quality and efficiency of the design work prepared by the Structural Engineering department. You shall have supervisory role over junior engineering staff assigned to your projects and shall assist in their personal development.
You will act as the lead consultant on projects providing C&S representation and input at key stages of the project to other members of the project team as well as ensuring that the C&S requirements are communicated and delivered within Harley Haddow.
The position requires excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, technicians and external parties. You will be representing Harley Haddow through direct contact with clients and other design team members on your projects.
You will be encouraged to attend lectures, seminars and other relevant industry functions as well as training courses with prior approval of the Departmental Director in order to progress you're learning and career goals.
You will be a Chartered Engineer or near chartership with either the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Roles and Responsibilities
A desire to build on your existing experience and knowledge of civil and structural engineering design and mentor junior staff
Developing Structural/Civil Engineering designs for projects through various project stages autonomously with oversight from senior staff
Development and preparation of sketches, diagrams and drawings to communicate engineering concepts with oversight from senior staff
Apply analysis techniques for the preparation of calculations all elements within structures, prepare and review load takedowns or manage the preparation of such calculations by junior staff
Understand and apply principles of stability and develop these for proposed structures
Demonstrate the ability to break down complex structures into individual components to allow for element design and the ability to communicate this to colleagues
Attend internal and external reviews and meetings as required with clients and design team members autonomously
Liaise with other disciplines for projects to assist with coordination of designs
Prepare structural engineering reports autonomously with input from senior engineers
Prepare designs which consider and reduce hazard and risk. This will include the preparation of assumed sequences of construction, contribution to risk registers, highlighting risks within tender information
Manage, distribute and provide oversight for work for junior members of staff
Conduct site visits during the construction phase of projects autonomously and report on all aspects of visits
Ability to manage and deliver designs for multiple projects
Prepare specification documents for projects with oversight from senior staff
Adhere to company quality, environment and H&S accredited standards as required for your role and provide oversight to ensure junior staff adhere to these standards
Ability to clearly interpret and understand project and client briefs
Management of programme deadlines
Monitoring of project spend and finances on projects and reporting on these to senior staff
Prepare and deliver project presentations
Undertake general administrative duties as and when required
Ensure QA procedures are followed and documented
Ensure all of your work is reviewed and approved by a minimum of Principal Engineer prior to any documentation issue.

Degree qualified Batchelor/Masters in Civil or Structural Engineering

Been consistently and successfully demonstrating all of the requirements of the project engineer role profile.
Demonstrable skills in managing projects, delivery, and quality autonomously.
Good people skills and demonstrable client facing skills.

Right to work in the UK
Hold a valid full UK Driving Licence (advantageous but not required)
Be prepared to travel to meetings and projects as necessary. Generally local to contracted office, but occasional work in other parts of UK and Europe or overseas that may necessitate an overnight stay.
