Your work will contribute to vital research and real-world solutions, helping clients across the government and private sectors. Key responsibilities will include:

• Conducting fire safety analysis and research, including large- and small-scale fire experiments, structural analysis at elevated temperatures, and fire compartmentation studies.
• Carrying out faxc3xa7ade and cladding assessments, and supporting fire-related site investigations.
• Performing finite element analysis (FEA) and interpreting complex data to produce clear, insightful reports.
• Preparing research and consultancy proposals within agreed scopes and to client deadlines.
• Leading and managing fire research and advisory projects from concept to delivery.
• Representing BRE at client meetings, technical seminars, and industry conferences.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the cutting edge of fire safety science translating research into impact.Your profileWe're seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Structural Fire Engineer with the following attributes and qualifications:Essential:

• Master's degree or higher in Structural Engineering, Structural Fire Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
• Proven experience in a structural fire engineering consultancy environment.
• Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software such as SAFIR or general-purpose FE tools.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings and use CAD software confidently.
• Working knowledge of UK fire safety codes and building regulations (advantageous).
• Strong attention to detail, with a proactive and organised approach to work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with proficiency in standard office software.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills
• Ability to manage your own workload, prioritise tasks effectively, and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to learn and apply new skills as project needs evolve.

Desirable:

• Familiarity with fire-specific Eurocodes.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities.
• Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools such as FDS or PyroSim.
• Knowledge of structural design and assessment for both modern and historic structures at ambient and elevated temperatures.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
• Self-motivated, confident, and focused.
• Chartered Engineer or working towards
