As our new Senior Sustainability Engineer you will be part of a growing global wide sustainability team, working on global projects within life sciences. You will leverage opportunities in capital project planning, design, and construction phases towards measurable KPIs to reduce energy, emissions, water, and waste intensities. You should be technically and analytically minded, and able to articulate ideas and concepts, using research of proven strategies and the latest technologies to guide fellow colleagues and partners toward innovative designs. You should also understand the nature of change management and be prepared to defend ideas and earn buy-in, among both colleagues and clients.
ResponsibilitiesRepresent the IPS Sustainability function on capital projects. This includes facilitating goal setting, and establishing and managing project work plans for self and junior team members across design and/or construction.
Collaborate with project teams to identify opportunities and feasibility for sustainable design, construction, and operational strategies. Focus areas include energy/emissions, water, materials, waste, and health & wellbeing.
Be a generalist in the broad topics that Sustainability influences in the built environment, but sufficient basic technical knowledge to manage quantitative deliverables.
Be a strong subject matter expert for at least several relevant focus areas (i.e. energy, waste management, materials, civil, etc).
Undertake LEED, and/or BREEAM Assessments across commercial & industrial schemes from feasibility through to final commissioning.
Manage design teams and deliverables for rating systems like LEED and/or BREEAM.
Understand and apply current and proposed Sustainability related legislation (Building and Planning regulations)
Research the latest advances in sustainable technologies for general building design, construction and specialised manufacturing processes.
Organise information in a collaborative, knowledge-sharing fashion, collecting, and developing lessons learned and case studies.
Supporting the training, development and growth of junior team members
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENTRAVEL DURATION, IF ANY, IS BASED ON THE FREQUENCY OF RELEVANT CONFERENCES OR MEETINGS WITH KEY COMPANY AND/OR CLIENT STAKEHOLDERS.
Qualifications & Requirements: 10+ years of industry experience in design, engineering, consulting, project management, or construction
7+ years of experience in a Sustainability-focused role
Experience in the life-sciences or manufacturing/industrial sectors
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
LEED/BREEAM Assessor - Minimum of five projects completed through to certification
Experience in energy analysis
Experience in evaluating sustainable material attributes
Experience in waste management and infrastructure
Strong written and verbal skills, able to communicate in a concise, clear and compelling manner (role will be client-facing)
Enthusiastic and resilient, innovative and technically grounded
Valued (but not required):To hold / working towards Chartership (CEng or CEnv) with CIBSE, IMechE, IEMA or equivalent.
Master's Degree in a related field, or relevant advanced training
WELL AP or Fitwel Ambassador
LCA Assessor
Energy modeling experience
Experience with Revit and other CAD tools
