The Senior Tax Manager, Reporting & International is primarily responsible for external and internal reporting. This includes the preparation of consolidated Group tax numbers and disclosure notes for the Annual Report and Accounts and Interim reporting under applicable accounting standards. In addition, the role is responsible for group level international tax matters. The role will be responsible for managing the relationship with HM Revenue & Customs and delivering UK tax compliance.
Duties:
Tax Strategy & Leadership
+ Advise and provide information and other support on the external reporting of tax matters to the Smiths Detection Group Tax Director and other business leaders as necessary
+ Assist in the proactive identification, management, monitoring and mitigation of relevant tax risks, communicating implications to the Smiths Detection Group Tax Director and supporting development of an appropriate strategic response
+ Contribute to the development of strategic objectives, Group tax policy, risk management, cost efficiency and stakeholder management for the Smiths Detection group
Tax Compliance
+ Responsible for the preparation of consolidated Group tax numbers and disclosure notes for the Annual Report and Accounts and Interim reporting under applicable accounting standards. This includes ensuring delivery of reliable tax data required for tax disclosures. Provide support to local financial statements as required by local Finance teams, for example, provide the tax disclosures for the UK Statutory Accounts under UK GAAP
+ Responsible for budget and forecast tax rates for the group. Also responsible for coordinating quarterly management reporting of group tax matters, including compliance and audit status
+ Manage external advisor relationships as appropriate to deliver local tax returns and transfer pricing documentation
+ Coordination of the Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) notification and certification process
+ Leading the delivery of Smiths Detection's Pillar 2 and CBCR compliance processes, including providing technical support and modelling as appropriate.
+ Preparation of tax forms and liaising with HMRC while assisting finance teams in obtaining treaty exemptions or reduced withholding tax rates
+ Coordination of UK group tax issues including group relief management and ensuring appropriate claims and elections
Tax Advisory
+ Assist with the identification, planning, and execution of tax effective strategies aligned with business activities, liaising with advisors to ensure appropriate opportunities are identified and risks mitigated
+ Assist with tax aspects of acquisitions, disposals, new entity set ups and new country tax planning as required
+ Work with the Smiths Detection Group Tax Director to successfully resolve any disputes with tax authorities, including settling historic matters, while operating within the Group's agreed risk appetite

Qualifications
Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Professional Accountancy and/or Tax qualification
Experience of tax reporting under IFRS
Good knowledge of UK corporate tax; broad knowledge of other UK taxes would also be useful including VAT
An understanding of the current global tax environment, including risk and reputational implications.
Experience in working with advisors and HMRC
10+ years corporate tax experience in public or private industry
Experience managing advisors
Business focussed with an ability to operate autonomously to develop effective working relationships across borders, cultures, and all levels of a matrixed organisation.
A self-confident and personable team player with good networking, relationship management and communication skills, comfortable with ambiguity.
