About us

Information Services Division (ISD) is the primary provider of IT services to UCL. We support and enhance learning, teaching, research and administrative processes by providing information- and technology-related services to over 50,000 staff and students of UCL and associated institutions. Our ambition is to be the leading IT services group in the HE sector and we are growing our team\xe2\x80\x99s capability in experience/UX, agile development, security, cloud, service management and partnering. We are modernising our technology foundations, digitising the processes of the university to transform experience for students and staff, and partnering across the university to drive differentiation in UCL education and research.

Portfolio and Product Delivery manage the delivery of technology led change, partnering with colleagues across UCL. We collaborate as cross functional agile teams (using Scaled Agile Framework/ SAFe) and have core capabilities in experience, development & test, analysis and agile delivery management.

About the role

As Senior Technical Lead you\xe2\x80\x99ll be part of the Development and Testing capability, helping to shape it from the ground up through your extensive technical knowledge and experience and ability to lead technical change.

Working alongside Product Owners, Architects, Subject Matter Experts and teams of Developers, you\'ll help to deliver against UCL\xe2\x80\x99s fast moving and wide-ranging technical portfolio worth over \xc2\xa320m per annum, including a new integration platform, a cloud-based data lake, laboratory management software and moving large parts of UCLs on-premises application estate to Cloud.

There will also be the opportunity to form some unique and exciting working collaborations with UCL\xe2\x80\x99s Advanced Research Computing (ARC) and Computer Science departments for access to AI, HPC Clusters and assisting on cutting edge research at a world leading university. You will be expected to lead and mentor several developers and other technical colleagues to build a strong technical capability as well as provide design guidance and input to decompose large/complex features/problems and shape work packages for an Agile product team to deliver in some of the university\xe2\x80\x99s largest and most enterprise-changing initiatives

About you

As a Technical Lead, you have a strong grounding in full stack software engineering including SCM, at least one programming language such as Python or Drupal (including dependency management and build automation), at least one database technology, devops, CICD, deployment and configuration management, as well as containerisation and testing techniques. You\xe2\x80\x99ll have experience in bringing this core set of skills to bear on a variety of technical projects and delivered against them through both hands-on work as well as strong leadership and mentoring of a technical team. Communication is key in this role as the Senior Technical Lead will be expected to explain complex concepts and build understanding to a variety of audiences at all levels. Additionally, an appreciation for application architecture, design patterns and solution design highly advantageous.
