The role
In this role, you will be primarily involved in the management of sport science and engineering laboratories, supporting the research taking place within the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC).
You will be embedded into the AWRC operational management team, work closely with a local technical team managing their day-to-day workloads, as well as working with the wider Sport and Exercise Science team, and central TORS service. Key areas of focus for this post include physiology, biomechanics, human body measurement, and sports engineering.
We understand that it is unlikely that you will carry a comprehensive knowledge in all of these areas, therefore we are looking for an individual who has the aptitude and enthusiasm to learn new techniques and be trained, as required, to support a diverse research portfolio.
With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will carry out training & demonstrations of equipment operation to relevant parties as required, producing training guides, and other relevant documentation to aid this. The coordination of health and safety management of the research centre will also be a prominent element of the role. Finally, having experience in bringing new equipment and processes into effect would be advantageous, e.g., scoping, procurement, commissioning (including due diligence of H&S considerations), training, etc.
You will be expected to work flexibly, be highly motivated and meticulous in your work, with a professional work ethic, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively across team boundaries sharing knowledge and skills to ensure customer-focussed results.
The Team
The Technical Operations, Resources and Services (TORS) Team provides unified technical support across Sheffield Hallam University.
The service supports face-to-face teaching and all practical activities to a high standard, supported by having a highly skilled technical services team.
The team supports academic delivery across both the City, Collegiate and Olympic Legacy Park (OLP) Campuses. This role will be based at the OLP, but there may be times your expertise is needed, or for training purposes, you are required at other sites.
