The Senior Technician based in the Assembly team at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) will play a crucial role in the precision assembly of complex components and systems. The successful candidate will work on high-tech manufacturing projects, contributing to the development of innovative products and technologies. This position requires a deep understanding of advanced assembly techniques, attention to detail, and the ability to work with sophisticated tools and equipment.

Main Responsibilities:


1. Precision Assembly:

Perform complex and precise assembly tasks, including the integration of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components. Follow detailed assembly instructions, blueprints, and technical documentation to ensure high-quality results.

2. Tool and Equipment Operation:

Operate advanced assembly equipment and specialized tools, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of tools to maintain optimal performance.

3. Quality Assurance:

Identify and troubleshoot assembly issues, implementing corrective actions as needed to maintain product integrity. Ensure the highest level of quality is maintained with whichever task is being worked on.

4. Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with engineers, designers, and other technicians to solve technical challenges and optimize assembly processes. Provide feedback on design and assembly processes to support continuous improvement initiatives. Become the technical lead and support the Operations lead when it comes to delivering projects. Act as project manager and lead by example for other technicians to follow.

5. Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of assembly processes, test results, and any deviations from standard procedures. Update assembly documentation and work instructions as needed to reflect process improvements or changes.

6. Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment. Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in assembly and manufacturing processes. Maintain an excellent level of housekeeping standards throughout and set the example for all other members of staff to follow. Lead the way with compliance and ensure all compliance checks are carried out in a timely manner.

7. Training and Development:

Mentor and train technicians and apprentices, sharing expertise and promoting skill development within the team. Stay updated on the latest assembly technologies and techniques through ongoing training and professional development.

Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience



Experience in a similar assembly role. Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and assembly Instructions. Strong hands-on experience with advanced assembly tools and Equipment. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Experience



Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma Methodologies. Certifications in advanced assembly techniques or related areas.

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) was established in 2010 as an independent Research & Technology Organisation (RTO) with the objective of bridging the gap between academia and industry - often referred to as 'the valley of death'.


It represents one of the largest public sector investments in UK manufacturing and, after four years of planning and a 16 month build, the facility opened at Ansty Park in Coventry at the end of 2011.


In December 2011, there were 16 industrial members, 44 staff and just a few key pieces of equipment in the 'workshop'.


Over the following seven years the MTC's rapid growth has seen the expansion of our campus with the construction of three more facilities, including the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre and the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing.


Our role has also increased to cover not only R&D but also Training, Advanced Manufacturing Management and Factory Design.


We now have over 700 talented employees working with us.


During this time we have helped hundreds of companies across a range of industries and over 100 of them have become members of the MTC.
