Purpose of Role
To lead and support all shift activities within the Precision Cold-Forging Department, ensuring production, quality, safety, and training standards are consistently met while supervising and developing staff.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Operations
Oversee daily shift activities for Setters, Operators and Apprentice to support staff issues.
Maintain discipline, housekeeping, and adherence to Health & Safety policies.
2. Technical Support
Hands-on setting and running of cold heading machines (multi-die & two-die three-blow).
Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and advice to team members.
Support tool development, setting instruction cards, and continual improvement initiatives.
3. Quality & Process Compliance
Ensure first-off samples, SPC, self-certification, and quality documentation are completed.
Coordinate QAD, Toolroom, and Clean & Barrel support to maintain flow.
Monitor wire/rod quality and raise issues with relevant teams.
4. Training & Development
Conduct appraisals and recommend development paths.
Keep accurate training records and attend relevant courses.
Skills & Qualifications
HNC desirable but not required.
NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent.
GCSEs in English, Maths, and technical subjects.
Strong leadership, communication, fault-finding, and drawing-reading skills.
Experience
Cold forging machine setting (special parts).
Experience on multi-die/progressive heading machines and two-die three-blow machines.
Deep knowledge of cold heading tools, forging materials, and lean practices (JIT, SMED, TQM, etc.).
