About the Role
As a Senior Traffic Engineer, you will:
Lead on the design and project management of traffic management and road safety engineering schemes, ensuring compliance with the Traffic Management Act, Highways Act, and other key legislation.
Oversee the design, management, and maintenance of traffic signals, and play a pivotal role in the operation and development of our Urban Traffic Management and Control Centre (UTMC/UTC).
Provide expert technical advice to colleagues, senior management, elected members, and the public.
Manage complex projects from inception to completion, including feasibility studies, technical and financial reporting, and public consultation.
Supervise contractors, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
Drive innovation in the use of intelligent transport systems.
Support the Council's commitment to a safe, free-flowing, and sustainable transport network.
What We're Looking For
A degree in a numerate or engineering subject, or significant practical experience in traffic management, road safety, or intelligent transport systems.
Membership of a relevant professional body is essential.
Strong project management skills.
Extensive experience in traffic management, highway design, and the operation of traffic signals and intelligent transport systems.
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
