Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the University Hospital of North Midlands to join the team of Gastroenterology Consultants working at our Royal Stoke and County sites. We are looking for a HPB (ERCP/EUS) Clinical Fellow who is motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide care and diagnostic services for patients presenting with gastroenterological illnesses.
The successful candidates will complement the expertise of 17 Gastroenterology Consultants, 5 SpRs, 5 trainees and 25 Clinical Nurse Specialists working across the Gastroenterology Department. The department has an interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Hepatology, Nutrition, Capsule Endoscopy and Functional Disease. We offer JAG accredited services across both sites which are fully equipped offering advanced GI endoscopic techniques. There are opportunities to continue to develop interests in research and medical education through established links with the Institute for Applied Clinical Sciences and Keele Medical School.
Main duties of the job
The Gastroenterology Department is the regional centre for Upper GI Cancer, including Hepatobiliary and Colorectal Cancer, as well as non-transplant Hepatology. The Department consists of 1 Gastroenterology Ward with 36 inpatient beds and there are 2 JAG accredited Endoscopy departments across Royal Stoke and County sites comprising of 10 scoping rooms in total, offering a range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. The successful postholder will be expected to provide appropriate care and diagnostic services for patients presenting with gastroenterological illnesses; To be involved in the development of services for patients with gastroenterological problems, in particular ERCP/EUS. To be involved in teaching and HPB audit/research as appropriate.

  • MBBS or equivalent CCST for Gastroenterology
  • Full GMC registration
  • CCST for Gastroenterology
Desirable
  • A higher degree (e.g. PHD or MD)
  • Experience and interest in specialized aspects of Gastroenterology to complement colleagues
  • Higher training in a dedicated Gastroenterology specialty training scheme
Clinical Experience
Essential
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCST in General and Gastroenterology Medicine
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of problems within specialty
  • CSkills and independent competence in diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and upper GI endoscopy
  • Experience in basic ERCP
Desirable
  • Experience in Knowledge of changes occurring in NHS as a whole and its impact on specialty work.
