Senior Translational Research Manager

London, United Kingdom

Job Description

About the role

The Translational Research Group (TRG) is responsible for developing and managing UCL\'s translational research projects.

The activities of the Senior Translational Research Manager (STRM) fall into three broad work-streams:

  • Translational project plan development - providing guidance to Principal Investigators (PIs) at the earliest stages of moving research into translation in order to establish project plans that lead to robust grant applications and providing guidance on the best translational funding paths to pursue.
  • Expert knowledge of translational funding schemes - to advise and provide dedicated support to PI\'s with completing and submitting specific applications to funders within specified deadlines.
  • Project management - providing dedicated project management for successful grants including managing CRO relationships.
An important success measure for the TRO is the development of a sustainable pipeline of funded translational projects covering all modalities. Experience in the translation of small molecules or oligonucleotides is desirable.

It is expected the post-holder will make a significant intellectual contribution to the TRO strategy by identifying translational opportunities and driving these along the translational pathway, particularly by contributing to applications for funds and project-managing successful awards.

Through interaction with PIs, the post holder will play a major role in structuring and managing the move from discovery to pre-clinical and clinical research and play a role in identifying collaborative interdisciplinary research opportunities.

The post-holder is also expected to act as the interface between early career and advanced researchers, to highlight and discuss clinical problems and potential approaches to developing solutions working through our Therapeutic Innovation Networks.

Key Working Relationships

The position requires the individual work with a complex mix of stakeholders across Life & Medical Sciences (LMS) and wider Translational Research Office (TRO), Clinical Trials Units (CTUs), Principal Investigators (PIs) from across UCL and its partner hospitals and UCL Business.

The successful candidate will join a professional, talented, and diverse team to work on projects that are essential to helping UCL achieve its ambitious strategic translational goals.

About you

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual with excellent interpersonal skills to manage a diverse portfolio of translational projects.

Working with both early career and established academics, the individual will advise on the translational pathway, funding opportunities and project manage successful awards.

This role would suit individuals within life science / pharmaceutical / biopharmaceutical / healthcare and biotech sectors with experience in translational focused projects that include product development from concept to commercialisation.
