AECOM is looking for a Senior Water Scientist to join our established and award-winning Water Environment Team. This is a multi-disciplinary team with over 60 specialists in water science, geomorphology, hydrology, aquatic-ecology, and hydrogeology.

We work with an array of clients from public and private sectors, for projects in the UK and overseas. We are involved in major infrastructure projects, but equally recognise the importance of providing specialist water science services to smaller niche projects and developments.

The Senior Water Scientist role will involve:

  • Carrying out and co-ordinating baseline, feasibility and optioneering studies.
  • Developing and implementing field studies and monitoring.
  • Engaging with multi-disciplinary design/project teams, statutory and non-statutory stakeholders.
  • Drafting high quality technical and non-technical reports, such as Environmental Statement chapters, WFD assessments, pollution prevention management plans, as well as bespoke reports and outputs.
Markets and types of development we regularly undertake assessments for:
  • Conventional power (e.g. carbon capture gas turbines, nuclear)
  • Renewables (e.g. solar + battery storage, pumped storage hydro, onshore and offshore wind, biomass)
  • Hydrogen production facilities
  • Water resource infrastructure/water supply pipelines
  • Flood alleviation schemes (fluvial and coastal)
  • Ports and harbours
  • Transport (e.g. highways, airports and rail)
  • Utilities (e.g. pipelines, power cables, overhead power lines, substations, WwTW)
  • Industrial/ leisure/ residential/ commercial developments
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in relevant subject (e.g. geography, environmental science, chemistry, ecology etc.).
  • Have experience in water / sediment quality and hydrology.
  • Have experience overseeing work of less experienced scientists with a view to future line management opportunities.
  • Be able to plan and organise project studies, field work and monitoring.
  • Have experience of undertaking feasibility studies/appraisals, impact and WFD assessments, including ideally for NSIPs.
  • Have strong analytical / numerical skills to methodically record, analyse and interpret data.
  • Be able to prepare project scopes and draft technical proposals.
  • Be chartered or working towards chartership with a relevant professional institution (e.g. CIWEM, CIEEM, IEMA, BHS etc.).
