About the role

Senior WordPress Developer to work on both themes and plugins to enhance and maintain existing sites as well as build out completely new WordPress web applications. As part of the role there is also the expectation that you will contribute to the front-end development of our flagship business facing product.

Background

One of the core services CZ has provided since it\xe2\x80\x99s foundation over 160 years ago is analysis around the markets that CZ has an interest in. Originally just sugar this has expanded over the past five years to include diverse products such as energy, PET and agriculture.

The CZ app uses WordPress as one way to disseminate insights and business intelligence throughout our customer base and those with interest in the agriculture, food and beverage and energy markets to name a few.

The company website uses WordPress and also acts as an initial point of contact for people who are interested in CZ. We also help to administer the VIVE sustainability programme, another core value at the heart of the CZ family and have recently invested in a new site using WordPress.

As our use of WordPress grows there will be a need to ensure that the look and feel across all sites is the same, both for the theme and admin panel, with the successful candidate playing an integral role in making that happen.

The role provides the opportunity to get involved at all points in the SDLC, from requirements analysis, system design, developing solutions, UAT, training, documentation, \xe2\x80\x98show and tell\xe2\x80\x99 and demo sessions. We also fully expect the successful candidate to contribute to finding innovative ways to use WordPress to help with marketing initiatives and expand CZ\xe2\x80\x99s service offering.

Tasks & Responsibilities

\xc2\xb7 Maintain and enhance company WordPress applications according to company standards, including but not limited to the company website, the CZ App and the Vive websites.

\xc2\xb7 Agree coding standards with your manager to lay the foundation for developing code at the agreed quality levels.

\xc2\xb7 Use common practice approaches and conform to industry standards during maintenance and development activities.

\xc2\xb7 WordPress theme, plugin and front-end development of the czapp.com website using JS frameworks.

\xc2\xb7 Act as a source of expertise for the technical aspects of SEO such as sitemaps, input into the information hierarchy e.g. tags and categories, site speed e.g. Time To First Byte, crawlability and use of structured data.

\xc2\xb7 API integration with both internally developed APIs and 3 party APIs, as well as developing custom HTTP endpoints within WordPress to facilitate both data load and data extraction.

\xc2\xb7 To take responsibility for your performance and to work together to achieve our organizational goals.

\xc2\xb7 To attend training courses which are identified as being necessary for the performance of the role.

\xc2\xb7 To be fully conversant with the Employee Handbook and supporting policies, including Health & Safety legislation and fire and emergency procedures.

We are looking for someone with the following skillset and attributes:

Essential:

\xc2\xb7 OOP development using PHP 7.0 or higher.

\xc2\xb7 A track record of both theme and plugin development, understanding the \xe2\x80\x98loop\xe2\x80\x99 and plugin bootstrapping.

\xc2\xb7 Experience of block development and general front-end development using React, and functional programming techniques.

\xc2\xb7 Experience using HTML/CSS and CSS frameworks.

Desirable:

• Automated testing using a framework such as PHPUnit and/or Behat.

• Experience writing custom HTTP RESTful endpoints in WordPress.

• Basic server administration using the LAMP stack.

• WP-CLI usage to automate core WordPress administration.

• Use of $wpdb to access custom tables within the WordPress database.

\xc2\xb7 Experience writing basic SQL queries using MySQL.

\xc2\xb7 Use of hooks to customise WordPress functionality with an understanding of the difference between \xe2\x80\x98Actions\xe2\x80\x99 and \xe2\x80\x98Filters\xe2\x80\x99.

\xc2\xb7 Building mobile first websites with a track record of creating responsive and fast web applications using WordPress.

\xc2\xb7 Business level fluency in English (both written and verbal)

\xc2\xb7 Advanced communication skills

\xc2\xb7 Excellent organisation and time management skills

\xc2\xb7 Keen attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
