Serious Injuries Case Handler

Cardiff, WLS, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Cardiff

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fee earner within the Serious Injuries Team (SIT). This role offers the chance to join a dynamic and expanding department at a market-leading firm. The cases handled within SIT are both challenging and rewarding, involving the support of seriously injured clients in rebuilding their lives and securing compensation to restore the independence lost due to accident-related injuries.

This is a fee earning position, responsible for managing a caseload of up to 40 pre-litigated and litigated SIT multi-track and intermediate track files. The majority of cases are related to road traffic accidents (RTA), with a selection of employer liability (EL) and public liability (PL) claims. You will oversee your own files from inception through to settlement, working with a mix of Part 7 litigated and non-litigated files. Your caseload will include a variety of liability admitted and denied cases, with potential for significant value, typically in excess of 25,000. In addition, you will receive support from a Case Assistant to help achieve positive outcomes for clients.

Beyond managing your own files, you may also be required to assist Grade A solicitors on high value or catastrophic cases, undertaking delegated tasks, attending conferences, meeting witnesses, and participating in client visits. This blend of case management and involvement in complex cases necessitates strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks while consistently meeting client expectations.

Case handlers are expected to provide guidance to Case Assistants within SIT, who in turn will support you in your responsibilities. Furthermore, all fee earners in SIT contribute to the wider business by offering support and assistance through Case Clinics to other case handling areas.

Training and Development

Ongoing training is a fundamental aspect of working within SIT, especially in specialised areas such as brain injury, spinal injury, amputations, and catastrophic claims. When attending external courses, fee earners are required to report back to the team during monthly meetings. SIT also provides internal training to other departments, and case handlers are encouraged to share their expertise and experience in relevant subject areas.

Required Experience

Previous case handling experience in personal injury is essential. Experience in managing Part 7 claims is required. Experience in multi-track litigation or within a serious injuries team is highly desirable, though not essential.

Core Role Requirements

Managing a caseload of intermediate and multi-track files. Achieving time and financial targets. Supporting Grade A fee earners. Mentoring Grade D case assistants. Supporting the wider firm and other departments through clinics and training initiatives.
