Essential Skills / Qualifications / Attributes




Good general technical knowledge of building services systems and ability to competently specify products and ensure compliant and functional design for the works in scope. (Heating / Hot Water system bias). Must have good communication skills and adapt these as necessary/appropriate. Must be able to build trust and confidence through competence, consistently delivering on promises, and promoting clear and timely communications with customers, colleagues, supply chain, and other project stakeholders. Must have good IT Skills in Microsoft Outlook ,Word, and Excel minimum. Must have sound construction health and safety competence and behaviours to be able to plan delivery of all works in scope safely. Must have full understanding of statutory/regulatory and quality compliance requirements applicable to all works in scope undertaken. Must have good commercial awareness and good win-win negotiation skills. Excellent time management skills and proven in achieving quality on-time project delivery. Time served, minimum 5years construction contractor project installation and service experience as senior service engineer. Experience of preparing and engaging with trusted sub-contractors on sub-sub-packages, including in respect of sub-contractor management, co-ordination and negotiations. Eye for detail, ability to visualise an installation, problem solve, having excellent compliance knowledge, and sound understanding of system design and selections for cost/energy efficiency to confidently advise customers on all relevant options for their project. Good awareness of commercial risks and opportunities. Profit margin focussed. Highly organised and driven individual committed to delivering excellence through great teamwork, sound decision making, with thorough and timely communications. Confident in delivering handover training and information, as well as troubleshooting and performing fault diagnostics. Positive project leadership qualities. Alignment with our Company FIT values, and consistently demonstrates the skills, experience, knowledge and behaviours needed to competently lead the planning and management of works in scope - including when necessary the upfront recognition of own limitations and commitment to ask pertinent questions when unsure or wherever works requests stray beyond usual scope etc.

Desirable Skills:




Other associated trades co-ordination and interface management experience. Experience subcontracting to medium/large main contractor customers as well as end users. Safe pair of hands in contract negotiations and dispute resolution. Naturally honourable, firm, and fair. Working knowledge of SimPro construction management software. Citb SMSTS and/or IOSH Managing Safely trained.

General Role Statement:





Heating / Hot Water installation selection, estimation, and supervision to various existing and new clients throughout the industrial & commercial sectors. Also, engages with clients to manage their PPM contracts managing the day-to-day reactive calls and scheduling PPM visits for inhouse and various mechanical sub-contractor trades as required.



Additionally, assist the service engineers with any technical requirements.

Duties:




Technical heating / hot water project and service sales, surveying, specifying, and estimation for mechanical projects, including liaison with new and existing customers to advise them appropriately in respect to their requirements for mechanical services and to close profitable sales.

Select suitable heating / hot water systems etc. for the customer's application, quantify materials and resources required to deliver those installations, produce associated cost and time estimates and submit sufficiently accurate and detailed tender proposals.

Attend meetings with customers, designers, specialist contractors and other team members as required. Answer RFI's/RFQ's that arise for heating / hot water scope. Produce own design information for the scope as required.

Contribute to and/or produce progress updates and attend project meetings as required.

Review any designs received for completeness of information and ensure compliance with contract and statutory requirements (specification, employers requirements, tech-subs, regulations etc). Notify relevant parties of any discrepancies in timely manner.

Obtain competitive supplier/sub-contractor prices and place orders/sub-contract agreements for equipment and services required to deliver contracts that are awarded. Ensure resources engaged are not over-committed and can capably deliver as expected/required.

Plan, programme, manage, and monitor live projects using in-house or sub-contract resources as required to ensure quoted scope is delivered successfully and safely, and that contract changes are managed appropriately throughout as required.

Ensure safe systems of work (explicitly including written RAMS) are in place and they are properly communicated to all stakeholders and understood by all personnel involved in the tasks.

Provide competent expertise to support the executing of the engineering delivery and associated commissioning and handover.

Ensure all records are properly completed and all required statutory notifications are made in a timely manner. Produce and submit O&M / hand-over information.

Provide customer awareness and a managed pathway for customers to readily access scheduled PPM by our service teams for ongoing support/aftercare on the installed equipment and for any other new or existing building services equipment that a customer may have on their site (cross-selling).

Organise and support mechanical plant PPM service engineers as required.

Attend customer meetings and produce contract reports for the previous month's service activities as required (typically monthly) and/or record PPM on their CAFM systems.

Attend sites and/or produce estimates for various other installation or mechanical PPM works as may be required as part of the wider team.

Assist the department on a day-to-day basis answering external calls where required and assist the service engineers with technical support and training as required.

In cases of breakdowns or other issues arising, provide face to face customer support and/or enhanced communications to provide the reassurance as required to ensure problems are resolved efficiently and customers are kept informed of progress throughout.

General office administrative duties.

Assist the department with service engineers bi-monthly 1-1.

Bring positive drive to the whole project team to deliver on our promises. Being relentless in building the company reputation for excellence. Always delivering projects safely, on-time, to all required quality standards, and bettering company net profit margins.

Visit site regularly to inspect ongoing installations for compliance with contract requirements and Industry best practice. Ensure all project related QA is delivered as relevant to the scope, and company procedures are followed.

Responsible for the complete delivery of the works on their projects to meet all contractual obligations. Ensure all required records are completed and copies retained on company (and by copy also customer) systems as required.

Manage the project budget, invoicing, and mitigate commercial risks as required. Negotiate final account success as required.

Ensure handovers are well planned resourced, led and managed, including (where applicable) soft landings.

To retain team focus on margins, cash, and net profit, as well as customer retention through service excellence, and maintaining a robust supply chain.

To maintain ongoing competence through regular CPD and engagement with learning opportunities.

To engage with, and support, the work of the wider team in any tasks reasonably required, retaining at all times alignment with our FIT values and behaviours consistent with competent leadership.
