About this opportunity

Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council have given consent to the Government's devolution proposals. Cumbria Combined Authority (CCA) will be established in early 2026, operating for a year without a Mayor, before Cumbria's first Mayoral election in May 2027.

The Public Health team in Westmorland and Furness Council are recruiting a full-time, permanent Service Support Manager. This new opportunity will support the development and delivery of Public Health strategic planning and business processes, working closely with the Public Health Senior Management Team. This will be an exciting and rewarding role, supporting a dynamic and committed Public Health team across the full range of the Local Authority Public Health function.

The successful applicant will co-ordinate the service planning for the Public Health team, ensuring alignment and compliance with corporate strategies and policies, including equity, diversity and inclusion, and business continuity. In addition, you will have a lead role in working with a range of organisations to deliver the health and wellbeing strategy for Westmorland and Furness, ensuring that progress continues to be made in improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities.

The post-holder will have strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing effective management and forward planning for system wide partnerships across a range of Public Health issues. You will work with budget holders to ensure resources are effectively used to meet Public Health priorities and improve outcomes for residents. This will include coordination of reports to funders for grants the Council receives for public health. You will support the Council in being ambitious and outcome-focused, particularly with respect to improving the health and wellbeing of residents.

Who we are looking for...

We are looking for someone with knowledge and experience of working within a Local Authority. Excellent inter-personal skills are essential to support the delivery of a range of Public Health partnerships. The Public Health team is responsible for supporting the health and wellbeing of the local community through the provision of services and by working in partnership to ensure health is considered in all polices. You will be part of the values-led, supportive and collaborative Westmorland and Furness Public Health team. We are committed to a vision of improved health and wellbeing, and reduced inequalities for our residents.

Hybrid (blend of home-based and office working) is available for this post with office bases in Barrow-in-Furness, Kendal and Penrith.
